Bill, Fantasy football works like this: You "draft" players for your team from actual teams. So you could have any makeup you wanted, such as a Cowboys running back, a 49'ers Quarterback, an NY Jets linebacker, etc. When the real teams play, you score points if one of your "players" scores a point. So hypothetically, if Troy Aikman scores a TD, and he is your fantasy QB, you score points. All we do is role-play this into BSE, so that if say the KZK got Troy, then the KZK QB scores. The Fantasy football software from CIS is shareware and is DOS based. Will it cost you $$? That's up to you. Now take Chip's excellent idea about incorporating the morale gain/loss into BSE. Since the score of the real world teams is outside of the control of us players, the fantasy scores will be fixed and un-alterable. simple matter to input a +/- into the colony. Personally, I like the idea, but I don't see it happening. Here in Dallas, folks like to watch the Cowboys, win or lose, regardless. I think that was what RTG intended with such a large morale gain for the "colosseum complex". However to be more realistic, morale really goes thru the roof when the hometown team makes the playoffs, and reaches a cresendo if they make the championships. Here in Dallas, Jerry Jones (owner of the Cowboys) opens up the stadium to an overflowing crowd for a pep rally, and when Da 'Boys won the Superbowl, we're talking a city wide parade & party bordering on a riot. (Nothing like when they went for the "threepeat", though). An alternative to the "fantasy football" would be modem play, but i'm not familiar with any software that would allow that. For RP'ing purposes, I intend to outfit a small freighter to carry my "team", to carry them to the locations of the "away" games. Steve ------------------------------ From: Michael.Keane@maf.nasa.gov Date: 12 Jun 95 06:26:31 -0600 Subject: FOE/Celtian attack ...................... (Interstellar Network News logo) ....................... <realtime video of aging action reporter St. Bernard Shaw> This is St. Bernard Shaw reporting for INN from near the remains of the FOE colony Retribution. The colony and its Celtian defender were destroyed while launching an attack on the IMP flee orbiting Hammerfest. We were allowed to tie into the colonies data and sensor networks and monitor the exchange from a nearby hilltop. While the destruction of the colony, which contained no Foelian troops that we could see, was expected; the effectiveness of the FOE/Celtian attack was surprising, given their past failures. The magnitude of the Imperial and Company fleet was also unexpected. What follows is our record of the battle. <video replay: View from top of hill down into heavily forested valley. Tiny colony with no visible ground forces, several hundred covered space weapons mounts, and several dozen colonists setting up command and control equipment for the space weapons.> <St. Bernard voice over> Here we see a simple 'assault' colony. We expected to see several hundred missiles launch, minimal damage to one of the Imperial dreadnoughts, and return fire that destroys the colony. The energy weapons that actually fired were unexpected, notice the classic ionization pattern of photon guns. <video continues: Celtians finish setting up, rapidly retreat to the command bunker, and open weapon pits. Pale lances of energy surrounded by mutli-colored ion discharge erupt from the pits. video inset: space radar shows close-up of target ship as it is hit and returns fire, damage is to the command section and appears to be extensive. Celtian writing scrolls across inset as it zooms out to show the fleet: ISP, ITS, FET, AFT, EEM, and SSL warships and freighters. Subtitles appear below Celtian script: Target: ISP Braunschweig (4211), commander - R. Adm. Eric Flinn Damage: Command Section Internal - totally destroyed External - approx. 80% of hulls destroyed Ship is derelicted> <voice over continues as inset is replaced by static and background shows fleet counter-attack destroying colony> After successfully derelicting an Imperial dreadnought and almost certainly killing a Rear Admiral, the Celtians paid the ultimate price. You can see the variety of weapons used against the colony and the skill in co-ordinating the weapons' firing, so as to avoid ships in the mighty fleet from interfering with each others attacks. We have confirmed that of the 33 ships in orbit, 28 fired on the colony or launched fighters. Weapons used included photon guns, disruptors, ion cannons, missiles, sonic blasters, positron guns, tractor beams, and even pulsar beams. The attack delivered over 400,000 units of damage to the colony and surrounding area. Not only was the forest around the colony burned but the ground itself was melted, the scar of this battle will not soon heal. <video feed cuts to later: The valley is a smoldering ruin, with a jagged ring of fire visible climbing the surrounding hills and mountains. The center has dully glowing orange crater where the colony once stood.> Striking back, the Celtians have simply proven who the final victor on Hammerfest will be. Alien weapons and small smuggling ships may prolong, but will certainly not end this conflict. From deep in the Hamerfestian forest this is St. Bernard Shaw signing off. ...................... However, the WCE insists that EVERYBODY recognize the sovereignty of the T3 over the Transhole region. If the QSN wishes to colonize and explore peacefully in the Transhole region, they need merely recognize said sovereignty. On the one hand, your PM claims the QSN recognize this sovereignty; on the other hand they refuse, by their actions and voice, to recognize certain claims approved by the T3.
