AG:Lower power levels From: "T. Woods" <twoods@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu> Date: Wed, 28 Jun 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I couldn't believe my inital results, so not only did I do 20 characters from 1000 down, but some characters from about 280 down. Very enlightening. Again this is over 9 turns in Antar, 125-134. None (at least that I remembered) were shooting up the ranks, so if I added them I doubt that it would increase the average power level gain and probably lower it. Comments: This is very enlightening. The average power level gain of the low power level characters is less then that of BOTH the high power level characters and the mid power level characters. Also the data doesn't show alot of variance, it all seems in the low 20's to low 30's range so it seems that the power level gains of low power level character is really this low. For one final test I checked the very low power level characters in case the WALL I'd been mentioning was reached ALOT earlier then I thought. The sample size is alot smaller, low power level characters move about/die/are dropped fairly frequently. Don't think there were any mistakes but won't guarantee it. :) Again there were a couple I didn't include. Sarjenka (average power level gain was so low it had to be an aberation, sorry Sarjenka ;), NastyNimble, and Raven (stopped soon after 125). Notice the wide variance in power level gains. Shannor could keep up with the high power level character! But there were several in the teens. My guess is that this were new players or old players experimenting with new designs. Taking out these outliers (the 3 teens and Shannor's) you get a power level gain of about ~30/turn. Still not good. But the sample size is smaller. Doesn't seem like much of a difference between 1000 and down and 280 and down. They're both below the high AND mid power level gains. Seems to me that the graph of power level gains based on power level is sorta like this | / | / | / Power level gain/turn | / | / | / ------------- Current Power level (Slope isn't this steep, but didn't want to make staircase graph) As you gain more power levels, you're average power level gain goes up. I think this is because as the power level of the character goes up they become better for their power level. This is reflected in the ability to go out at higher difficulty level adventures. The higher the level of the adventure the more kill points possible, ep, destiny, ect. Also the higher the power level the more competent the adventurers, having covered all the necessary skills for successful adventures (and we all know that adv. score determines the max possible amount of ep you'll get from an adventure, right?). Thus the higher the power level the tougher creatures you can face FOR YOUR POWER LEVEL. It's the only explanation I can think of. Also a better design means that a character can start out going at tougher sites at the same power level but this doesn't seem to be a snowball affect. The highest power level gains of the lowest characters are about the same as that of the mid power levels. The best designed characters aren't getting better (i.e. gaining power levels) at an ever increasing rate, just always at a better rate then worse designed characters. Maybe the best designed characters as they gain in power level may EVENTUALLY catch up to the power level GAINS (notice I didn't say power level) of the high power level characters. If power level does affect power level gains, then those characters gaining in the high 30's when at very low power levels may gain 40's in the mid power levels, and 50's (i.e. like Ripjack/Sten) at the high power levels. They will probably gain and overtake some of the mediocre/poorly designed characters. But by then how much higher will the high power level characters be? Incidentally BB had been having some bad turns. Adv. score dropped down to 50, w/l went from 90+ to 79%. Last turn was a decent turn (gained 45 power levels since tournament). Average is now pushing 40. :) Still surprised at Shannor. 51 power levels/turn! Was only 5 turns worth of data, but still something. Up
