FIASCO '95 (Leeds UK) From: Steve Pritchard <Steve@spelbind.demon.co.uk> Date: Mon, 03 Jul 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Yes, it's getting worse and worse every year. We used to attend and used to have a stall, but in truth there is virtually no-one outside of existing PBM players who ever hear about it. The wargamers tend to keep to their own little hobby (not that I'm criticising them for it) and after a couple of years of standing behind a stall in the vain hope of anyone stopping to even take a look at what PBM had to offer, I just gave up booking a stall. Ironically, the first year I went _without_ a stall, I took a lot more money from existing players than I had ever done before! However, this time around I spoke to about five or six PBM'ers that I knew, chatted with a few stallholders, trekked around the wargames areas, and then went home. The whole event lasted about an hour and a half for me, and I DO actually play a fair few wargames outside PBM as well - for die-hard PBM'ers, the event was basically a bit of a dead loss. What made it a little worse was the "flyer" that was sent out to advertise the even to PBM'ers. It basically said that there would be more than a few companies attending, and even on the hordings there at the very day, it suggested you were going to see over a dozen different companies in attendance. How many were there? Perhaps seven or eight?? Flagship probably won't go to the next one, Phildee says not too, and will Madhouse bother? With these three taken out of this years line-up, there is virtually no-one worth mentioning, so it looks like being about the end of things! Yep, I'll go next year, and nope, I won't have a stall. Actually, without there being a Timepatterns/Flagship stall, you can bet that it will be the last year that it can really be called a PBM event.
