[PBEM News] GURPS Miskatonic Prep From: blackaeon@yahoo-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (blackaeon) Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 19:03:26 +0000 Miskatonic Prep is a GURPS-based game set in a boarding school for the unique, talented, just plain wierd or unfortunately normal student with enough talent and/or money run by the basically good-hearted multi-millionaire playboy Ben Hilbrook and his fellow IOU alumni, as well as a few... unique outside hires. Here young men, women and things hone their various skills and learn life lessons (and possible lessons about death) before that painful and time-consuming adventure called college. Set in late August, 2006, it will initially be set in the US North-east . The school occasionally moves at random around the United States (and rarely, other countries). Only once since the school was finished (last year) has it ended up in an alien dimension, and most of the buildings survived unscathed. My intent is for this game to be loose, light on dice and heavy on writing, and most importantly, silly/wierd. If you've found the perfect inspiration to play a sentient cardboard box, a junior ninja, teenage cyborg, or a five-armed alien, go for it. THe game's tech level is going to be 7/modern day equivalent, with Unusual Background required for anything over 9 in a student's possession. Wierdness Magnet is worth exactly 5 points in this game, simply because of the high levels of Wierdness at the school itself. As stated previously, the initial character build is 150 points, with a maximum of -100 points in Disadvantages. If I ask you for clarification of some of the character's abilities or gear (probably because I don't have the book), I'll ask before I'll let the character begin, but I'm really flexible about character concepts. If all of that stuff about character points sounds foriegn to you, but you enjoy writing and don't know much about GURPS rules, I can help with character creation via email (blackaeon@yahoo.com). The main emphasis will, again, be on role-playing, and while combat isn't discouraged, I don't intend for this to be a violent-action packed game. Normal US laws are applicable to all students and enforced by the faculty and security guards (aka redshirts), even if at least a few of the studens are illegal aliens (possibly in the spatial or extradimensional sense.) Just remember though, just sometimes, it's only wrong if you get caught doing whatever you're doing . There will be intrigue, interaction, excitement, and probably at least one or two student casualties. Days in the game will advance randomly, so don't expect to start every morning waking up and eating breakfast, or even waking up in the same time zone, and probably won't last for more than two or three months. Big plots might take longer, but one of the major banes in play by post/email is IOHO, going really slowly. -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.pbemnews.org Up
