Ancient Times 1/3 From: keith.langley@mdcs.com (Keith Langley) Date: Wed, 05 Jul 1995 00:00:00 +0000 ANCIENT TIMES Summer Solstice, #0795 Waiting list begun for OTF game #5 - I have received the first sign-up for the next game of OTF; as usual it will start when there are six people signed up. No more Ancient Empires starts - With the growing popularity of OTF, I want to devote more time to that game, and to eventually develop more of my own designs. I also want to accommodate the new players for OTF without disrupting turn-around time (which is still not where I would like it to be). Therefore, I have decided to stop promoting AE; the two games now in progress will be the last two I will run. I've asked Howard Huston, owner of the game, to find another licensee. AE has simply not developed the following or the interest that OTF has, it's harder to process, and 30% of the gross is paid out in license fees. To those who were thinking about playing in the next game, I apologize; I'll let you know when a new licensee picks up the game. Antediluvian Times Ancient Empires game #2 Rhodes nets haul of advance points from Midodo - A Rhodian fleet of 14 galleys caught six Midodan ships off the coast of Hioken. They drove away the war galleys and captured three cargo ships laden with technical information and prototype machinery. Midodo captures Sumatray's food shipment - As the sea takes, so does she give. Midodan ships caught a Sumatrayan galley full of food, as it tried to return home after failing to deliver its cargo to Rodetan. Sumatray and Midodo meet at sea - 8 Sumatrayan ships left Enta and drove away a small Midodan force in the Pindolor Sea, but were unable to catch them. The Sumatrayans then sailed south, where they were defeated by another Midodan fleet in the Unshat Sea. A third Midodan force, blockading Styke, was defeated by another fleet from Sumatray. Rhodes declares war, announces maritime policy - Rhodes declared war on Cana and Midodo, and declared themselves allied to Sumatray. Rhodes also announced that enemy ships will be attacked on sight, Sumatray's ships will be allowed free passage, and all other ships must pay a toll of 20 metal to pass through Rhodes' territorial waters. While these policies are not unusual, the definition of "territorial" is - it includes Comas Sea, Swali Sea, and Rodetan Sea, and all waters between Rhodes and those points. Rhodes gains toehold in Bodan - The villages of Norilom and Totala in Bodan joined the Rhodian empire, after Totala was threatened by an invading army and fleet. Archaic Times Ancient Times Game # 3 Gython's army captures Rhodian village - About 1,000 Gython soldiers landed at Mono, Rhodes. They slightly outnumbered the defenders, but it was the difference between Barbarian and Tribal troops that made this an easy victory for Gython. The threat of a similar invasion was enough to cause the village of Thardic, Rhodes to surrender to Gython. Gython invades Titan - A cavalry army from Gython landed at Threat, Titan. Despite losing over 200 soldiers to the sea while unloading, there remained enough to easily crush the defenders. Epistles from Erth One True Faith game #2 Storch finally loses Normandy; attackers hammered - With Divine help from Ettahae, Tyr's army succeeded in taking Storch's last province in the West. Despite paralyzing half of the defending artillery and preventing most of Storch's planned purchases, the Good gods almost lost again. The remaining artillery flattened three fourths of the invaders. Magian attacks Chicane in Morocco - In a surprise atttack, ships full of Magian troops attacked Fezzan. Chicane's forces, outnumbered, fell swiftly. Holstein falls to Magian's army - Agnostic dwarves defending Holstein proved no match for the Plague God's flamethrowers, although Magian suffered moderate losses in the battle. Ettahae takes Gotland - After a brief naval battle with Gotland's lone warship, Ettahae's invading army (mostly undead recently won from Mobius) easily took the agnostic island of Gotland. Ettahae suffered minor casualties at sea, and none on land. Gramunch advances into Champagne - What started as a clan war between two rival groups of ratmen expanded into a full scale invasion, as Belgian Munchkin rodents conquered the agnostic rats of Champagne. Munchkins occupy Montenegro - The Greek Munchkins also celebrated a victory, capturing agnostic Montenegro with only one cavalry unit lost. STANDINGS - I will post standings every 3 turns or so.
