Two questions: 1) How do you 'claim' land? (or even ocean for that matter) Or are the labels for sectors merely equivalent to (e.g.) The Sahara? And are they static? 2) Is there any 'unclaimed' land out there? It seems to me all routes from Atlantis City are blocked at the destination city. We newbies need a place to expand TO. -Chief Coaxster ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 10 Jul 1995 23:10:14 -0500 (CDT) From: "Robert A. What exactly is the proces to transfering units from one faction to the other? Is it simply, as the rules state: GIVE 75 UNIT (75 is the unit under control of the other faction) If so, what happens to the groups possessions (silver, swords, etc). Does it transfer with the GIVE or do they need to be given seperately. Also, does that unit maintain seperateness, or does it meld with the UNIT specified, thus diluting the skills. If so, how can you give control and not dilute the skills? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ____ Robert A. I'm part-way through the revamp of my atlantis homepages, including much expanding help for newbies. And what happens? The Game Closes! Two friends whome I've just talked into joining the game now can't. Is anyone else annoyed? And Geoff says it's going to be a "commercial" game for October onwards! I like to play but I can't / won't pay! Anyway, I'm much disillusioned, and have halted developement of my Atlantis pages for the time being. Sorry folks! Once we've heard how long Geoff is actually going to keep *this* game running for, I may change my pages, but for now, they're static and old! I guess it'll do me good in the end, as I'm going into my final year next yearand won't have as much time on my hands. I think I'll send this to Geoff as well - perhaps you could put some sort of press release out other than "the gameis now closed!" It would be a lot softer on us than the sudden death toll in the times! regards, Jon. Yes, a control weather spell would be useful, but HOW would you code it? Among the first lot of fake spells, of which the Spells Syndicate deals with great relish (you may have read some of our work) were two for Control Weather. One to make it winter in a region, the other to make it summer. The problem is, how can you have Summer in one region, when it is Winter all around in the surrounding six hexes? Surely this would lead to a crash! Nice idea, but impractical. It is effectively a system to allow people with flying and riding means to move around during the winter months, while a walkingunit would have little chance to gain the benefits (unless they try and enter Desert or Plains areas). This evens out the way horses (and flying mages) can utilise their property/properties. OK? Regards as ever Dave PS This should realy be put on the deisng list, so designers be prepared to receive this twice. > >>Pardon me if I'm being ignorant (i.e. if they already exist) but I >>think there should be weather control spells as a subset of the >>Nature discipline. There will be a new exit from Atlantis this turn lets see where that leads, you can still go to Cremona, etc but you may have to join with other newbies to make a foothold. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 11 Jul 95 07:50:49 PDT From: "Odin Lord of Vallhala" <JSKJONSB@us.oracle.com> Subject: Times? Perhaps they can play if they take over spots from people who decide to drop out. As for a commercial game, I believe Geoff was talking about starting Atlantis 3, not about making Atlantis 2 commercial. The only news there is the tentative opening date for Atl 3. >Anyway, I'm much disillusioned, and have halted developement of my Atlantis >pages for the time being. Sorry folks! Once we've heard how long Geoff is >actually going to keep *this* game running for, I may change my pages, but for >now, they're static and old! Geoff has said before that he intends to continue Atl 2 even after Atl 3 opens. Of course, he is free to change his mind at any time. We'll see. This would be the case even if I was still playing a free test version, while others paid for new games. Isn't policy wonderful!
