Any cash that you give to units which fail to recruit any men should go to one of your other units in the region at the end of the turn. If this has not happened, then you should submit a bug report. If any money was stolen from you, then you will see that fact listed among the events at the beginning of the turn report. As you discovered, you cannot buy men unless you have the cash in hand. Any men that you buy may work to cover their upkeep, but you must have already paid for them. McGaw" <u3djm@csc.liv.ac.uk> Subject: Greetings and Chat Date: Fri, 7 Jul 1995 15:48:37 +0100 (BST) Hello All, I've been out of commision for a little bit, but I'm back for one nite only, at a players list near you. Well, on to business. GIANT LIZARDS! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!! RUN FOR IT! Ok, so they aren't everywhere, but here's how to answer all the questions in one fell swoop : Dave, where are they? Praestbygd (13,28), swamp Dave, WHAT are they? - Giant Chameleons (1309), 6 giant lizards. Who are they gonna attack first? Well it looks like me, actually. I dunno whether they ARE gonna attack, and ifthey are, whether it is gonna be random or not, but my unit is directly next in line on the turn report, which doesn't fill me with confidence. - Giant Chameleons (1309), 6 giant lizards. * Rally Cheyenne (1117), The Lucifer Hawks (810), avoiding, behind, Just one point to all in the Cremona area, I am claiming hex 13,29. I will putin the request to the Crusaders in a later mail. What else? Well there is the subject of Mages that has come up. Dave, How am I supposed to maintain a pure Magic faction? Easy, buy a tonne of men, and put them to work. The profits they earn can easily pay for tutition. I reckon that with a basic wage rate of $15, you need 24 men to support one mage. Easy. Combat spell problem? I don't see a problem. If it's a bug, as the Almighty Geoff announced, I think it's a cool one, that should be left in. Look at it this way. Someone, who you think is a normal blokey LDR, suddenly let's rip with a bolt of glaring fire, or bulges with a muscles and kicks the crap outta some poor army, is GOING TO GET NOTICED! Combat spells should be diclosed. Something as powerful as 50 men holding their eyes, or 100 men clutching their heads and running away, is a sure sign thatsome force is at work. What else? Monsoons! What monsoons? (Cue sudden gust of wind followed by a fleeting rain storm over Dave's head) Oh THOSE monsoons!!! Yep folks, the monsoons are a coming, so if you haven't fled from the LIZARDS run the hell away from the MONSOON. At the very least TAKE COVER !!!! Anything else? Well, a big THANX and congrats to Tawnlin for setting up a land claims officeything, and putting the pillagers in their place. Nice one, matey! All we need now is the support of the common folk in the area to enforce the law. (By the way, I'm claiming hex 13,29 in the name of the Anime Alliance) Gotta be summit else? Yep! Me and Tim, (The Guyver Overlords, u3tjn@csc.liv.ac.uk) managed to land our honours project, so we're well chuffed. I got pissed last week, (or was it the week before) and before you hear the gossip, I DID jump off the Chester bridge, with just my briefs on! OK?? Rumours can cease now! I think that's it! Any more gunk you wanna throw my way let me know by email. Regards as ever Dave PS Newbies can still ask me for advice. u3djm@csc.liv.ac.uk PPS Anyone know how to pass on magic items? If so, how does one write the order for that? Yes. New units do not come under any special constraints. One only need take special care with them because they start with no men. Consulting the sequence of events in the rules, then, we find that FORM orders come before CLAIM, GIVE, BUY, and MOVE orders. MOVE orders come last of that set. In between you can use your preferred method of getting men into the unit. As for writing the orders, remember that the sequence of your submitted orders is largely irrelevant, as orders are actually executed according to the aforementioned sequence of events. Thus there is no special trick to writing the orders you describe. For example: UNIT XXX FORM 1234 BUY 5 HEL MOVE N END GIVE NEW 1234 350 SILVER The following will work just as well, even though the FORM order follows the GIVE order: UNIT YYY GIVE NEW 4321 5 HEL FORM 4321 MOVE SE END John Bollinger Melvin's Marauders (105) ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Scott_Louie@compaq.price_waterhouse.notes.pw.com Date: Fri, 7 Jul 95 16:33:45 CDT Subject: Thanks all for the assistance in moving newly created units. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 7 Jul 1995 18:18:46 -0500 From: jobollin@iumsc4.chem.indiana.edu (John Bollinger) Subject: Re: Atlantis: Merging units >What is the proper to merge two units into one? I tried to give the >characters but that doesn't work. I don't know specifically what you tried, but merging units is performed as you describe -- by having one unit give all of its men to the other. Possessions should be transferred in the same way. Note that you can only do this if the two units belong to the same faction; otherwise you must use a "GIVE XXX UNIT" order to give the entire unit to the faction that owns unit XXX. >Also, do you get a message in the report if a unit is robbed? I was >victimized a few turns ago but the report showned nothing unusual. You should. It should be listed among the "Events during turn." If it is not there, then you should submit a bug report to Geoff. From your turn reports. From other people's turn reports. From the CCC. There is no complete map of Atlantis available to players. The Enquirer mapper is a tool to help you create as much of one as you care to (or can). It is not, in itself, a means to discover information about areas unknown to you. Hi Robert, > I guess I'm kinda confused... > > Where do you go about getting the map data for the Enquirer program? In The Atlantean Enquirer Ver2, there is a bug that makes it hard to create maps. Also many users seemed to not give the map time to display (about 20 sec). Version 3, fixes all these problems, and has many new and improved features, ive sent a copy to Geoff, but when i last checked ftp.rahul.net he hadn't archived it. Ive also uploaded The Atlantean Enquirer ver3 to these sites... ftp.io.com pub/GURPSnet/... ftp.uwp.edu pub/msdos/games/... ftp.erg.sri.com pub/pbm/... Im still looking for other good sites to upload to. About getting map data... With ver3, the creation and editing of maps is made a lot easier and robust. However finding out lots of data on the World your're in would normally be part of the game, and im sure not gonna post my own map, but maybe some helpful player will. -banj0 ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 8 Jul 1995 17:41:33 +0200 From: "Michael O.
