Thanks to Bruce Cota for his help. Hi, all! Whoops, neglected to set a date in the title box last time... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jul 1995 01:00:00 GMT From: Paul Noble <editor@elbon.demon.co.uk> >DT> Seriously, though, am I the only person hampered by a do-gooding priest >who won't let his fellow party-members go burgling? Even Neil Benson's >Zanulian Proxy (may the sun continue to beam from between their rosy >cheeks) have been relieving the shopkeepers of Damnir of their surplus >profits, I hear. And perfoming depraved magicks. *spit*. PN>Im building a new group, my first actual 'good' group which is going to be very heavily based with fighters and no thief, also just 1 mage! >CC> YES YES YES. Want the same printed in G7 and G5 newsletters? PN> I've sent out questionnaire to all the editors bar err, I think all the editors available on Email, I'll try to get them out to you tonite, the other editors should get theirs in the Eddie paks soon, if the tapes been broken then you know you mails been intercepted. >CC> I look forward to seeing them. Tell the guy I do hold grudges though. >I'd be happy to arrange a tournament with a convenient location for both >of us. But if he attacks and screws my orders, I'll spend the rest of my >playing life destroying his group. PN>No worries, he has no intention of fighting fair, thats the whole point, he'll give you as little chance as possible in the best 0% flee high magic style I think he's expecting you to go for him for ever. Thats if the Luggage survives. >CC> Well, I've also got death spells ranked. PN> Should be quite an amusing battle, but of you lose chars and so does he, who do you thinks gonna be the most pissed off? He's got nowt to lose, another 20 turns and he's got several more, you've spent over 100 turns being aquanted with your guys. >CC> What do you call the add on rec.games.pbm? If I post the thing people >paying for access will be incredibly peeved - it's 100K. Anyone who wants >a copy can have one and it will be put on web sites. PN> at the time of the statement it was totally valid. >CC> What the hell is up with you? It was an innocent question? If that's >your attitude I suggest you crawl back under a boulder and come out and >reply to me when you've calmed down. I've you've just screwed you exams >don't take it out on me - you screwed up not me. PN> Crawling under rocks is a favorite term used by questors it seems, but I am totally calm, I was when I wrote the original post, hence the last paragraph written. I don't screw exams up thanls very much. I didn't get any so it would be hard to do badly in them. PN> What the hell is up with me? Your attitude. Men do this men do that, everyone should listen to me coz I've got 5 fighters with 100% weapon skill, if we had a fight do you think you mages would stand a chance vs my fighters, basically stuff like that. Your group may be over 100 turns, doesn't mean it rules the universe and can stand up to everything. >CC> No but I spent the time writing the sodding thing. If you reprinted >my stories without crediting me, I'd be just as annoyed. PN> Sure you didn't jsut reprint somebodies elses tips? In Quest there can be no credit due except in the writing style, Quest is fact, once you got it, it doesn't matter how many others get it, it's got. Your demand that you be credited looks remarkably like you thought that you actually did discover it all yourself and were the first to do so. >CC> That was what made me suspicious in the first place, arsehole. >Courtesy never hurt anyone and mailing every other editor except myself >and my boyfriend is not exactly going to win any prizes was it? PN> are you refering to the original miny ad I sent out? If so then you are sorely mistaken, I sent out 15 copies of the ad, it was about 2 inches by 1 inch big, the only games not to get one were G1 and G2, if you missed it it ain't my fault. Perhaps KJC missed it, no reason to get paranoid. I have no bones to pick with Bill, I applaud him for his old stuff in G9 when I started, Godfrey Axe aged 4 and a half etc. >CC> Then don't read them. PN> actually I'm quite enjoying this 'discussion' > CMD> Any objections? >CC> Yes. If I'm on the recieving end of bilge like PN's or PR's comments >which is sent to the whole digest, then I deserve a reply which is read >by the same readership. PN> Agreed, as I know I'm right. Your one piece of written abuse this post, perhaps next time will provoke a more venoment response or do you realise that you were being well arrogant and totally out of line? >CC> On a seperarate note: the G3 ed who did a review of the London meet. >Why wasn't I on the list of editors. You spoke to me. You were sitting >next to me. >NB> Here, I agree with you. I have quit Quest (for the last time!). >However, I still enjoy role-playing through the mail so I still >participate in the newsletter and through communications, though I no >longer play. In fact, I believe that I am having more fun through >not playing and simply character interacting than some players do who >simply play for the sake of the turns! I intend to show Kevin that I >can play while he cannot profit. PN> about the printing and bad orders, I have been sending my turn orders in big bold print outs, a turn per page and keeping a record of my orders on HD, they don't like it but I've only had 1 error so far and I had that corrected as it *has* to be their fault. >NB> As an aside, I put the above points to Kevin, including a >warning that someday a company will come along with a simnply >product, but will also have some customer service values. He replied >that others have tried (he mentioned TSR, FASA, etc) but none have >come close to him and his little game. Beware Kevin, for you >complacency will bankrupt you! Indeed he's being intensely shortsighted, give him a slap. hows you game coming along Neil? >CMD> May you all have really enjoyable Quest-related dreams, like I did last >night! (Want to know more? That's for me to know and you to wonder about!) PN> in 20 turns I'm gonna be dreaming some really lovely dreams. ;) And I ain't talking G14, by the way how early did people get bored witht heir groups and the fact that there wasn't anything to do? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jul 1995 21:51:39 From: Peter Read <dynamic@dynamic.dialix.oz.au> >>The MSDOS mapping program is available MC> It was a very usable program but I found one irrtating thing > (bug?) about it - it wouldn't print the map's I've made with > it! All that came out was... I guess that's the Dynamic Games mapping program you're talking about. I don't think it was ever meant to print out anything exciting. My Epson dot matrix produces a 60 * 60 map but my laser won't produce a thing. The program is designed mainly for it's screen display and I think it does that very well. Regards Peter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jul 95 15:38:23 MEZ From: CHBRIN5@NYX.UNI-KONSTANZ.DE (Kai Hortmann, I think? Is that spelt OK?) KH> Could we please stop the flames? Otherwise I'll have to get asbestos paper for my printer. :) KH> I just bought my first magic ring, a ring of invisibility. Does someone have a list what other magic rings there are? There seem to be scrolls of every spell. Potions, I haven't tried them yet. Do you use magic items, or aren't they worth the effort? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 95 21:26:25 From: Kryten <kryten@menageri.demon.co.uk> > The MSDOS mapping program is available on our web page - > http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pbm. The full url to the file is > > http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pbm/files/questmap.zip. I downloaded this last week. Great program, it only took me 12 hours to enter my map of game 11 (3/4 of the game map). Its very easy to use, the only problem I've had is getting it to print out the maps. Peter please respond. If anyone wants a copy of the game 11 map as I've inputted it (can't promise that there won't be any mistakes (us mechanoids are not totally infallable you know), then I am prepared to exchange a copy for any info on the game they have. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jul 1995 08:41:52 +0200 (CES) From: Roland Ottl <ui99@rz.uni-karlsruhe.de> RO> THE FINNISH QUEST HAS A GAMEMASTER !!! Yes, folks, it's true. According to a friend of mine they have started Quest in Finland, too, but with a big advantage. With the implementation of a GM completely new options come into play. Thus they can add special orders at an extra charge just like in BSE. To give you an impression what that means to the game I give you some examples from the Finnish game: RO>One of the cities was faced with a horde of goblins. The leaders of the city asked for help. An alliance called Black Rose came and defeated the horde (lots of EXP according to my friend). Then they took over the city and actually renamed it into Black Rose. Furthermore they are repressing the populace (earning taxes etc), which in return asks for help from other cities. RO>There's also a big-scale war going on, with the two warring alliances hiring whole mercenary companies for money. (Okay, this would be possible in our version, too) RO>The eastern side of their Kharne is actually taken over by goblinoids, who razed the temples of the good gods etc, ie actuall changes in the town data. RO>Each of the cities has a wizard as leader, who cast votes on stuff like whether cities should send troops to aid in the wars I just described etc, ie all kind of things that actually affect the whole of Kharne. RO>There's also a single group that's travelling from city to city trying to blackmail the city elders. So far they have burned dowm the libraries of two major cities. RO>So you might argue that prices will rise steeply. Yes, I suppose so, but then again: these things have been promised from the start. I remember the first rulebook where KJC promised that someday you could run a city, go into politics, form armies, become highpriest etc etc. What happened to these promises ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CMD> Nice to end on a positive note for a change. KJC could start a game like this tomorrow, and in some ways I wish they would, but I can't see it happening. The GM would have to go and work at the Blackpool offices full time, and there just isn't any room for them to take any more staff on in their current building. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a UK Quest with more hand moderation than usual by the end of '96; perhaps it's the future of CrasiQuest? I can think of half a dozen Digest readers off the top of my head who would do an admirable job as a HM Quest GM - there's probably many more. Meanwhile, I guess we'll all have to look into the exchange rate for Finnish Markkaa... CMD> Still too many flames for my (and by the looks of things, other peoples' as well) liking. I hope there's good news to report on this soon. To change the subject, who's going to be at the Birmingham pub meet? I won't be (as I'm going to see Chris Eubank box in Whitley Bay that night) but presumably Josh will - I'd love a quick report on who was there, what happened and so forth. I'll be at Manorcon this weekend, though (Europe's biggest amateur games convention, with a substantial PBM presence, though probably not too many Quest players). CMD> Hoping the hot sun shines on your parties! Chris. Up
