Several of us are in what appears to be the first of the Nexus systems, but it appears to be a dead end, and we're searching for whatever the connection to the rest of the region is. This system was accessed thru a blackhole, and so far no limit on what can enter it thru the blackhole, but I would suspect that whenver we find the connection to the region, there'll be a limit on it of some kind. A small RIP raider group consisting of three RIP commerce raiders under the personal command of Cap'n Scragg attacked and derlicted the ITS Super Hauler Chrysotile commanded by Cmdr Serpentine. The Chrysotile was derlicted by the RIP ships and not a single crew member survived the attack. 14929 stellars where captured by RIP buckaneers. Unfortunantly there was not enough cargo space available on the raiders for the cargo of Missile launchers and Photon guns the ITS ships was carrying. In the cargo section of the ITS arms transport the bodies of 400 imperial crewmen where found. The RIP raiders scored a significant number of hits to the main section of the ship with Ion canons which accounts for the heavy IMP causalities. I will be out of radio contact for about 2 weeks until we (hopefully) make successful planetfall. <OOC - business trip .. back 8/4> My regrets to the family of the FGZ ambassador to SMS Canton. I witnessed the whole unfortunate incident, and can attest to the fact that it was nothing more than a tragic accident. When one is 9 1/2 feet tall, and decides to go bungy-cord jumping, one simply must remember to shorten the rope!! Ensign Kubla Cohen has done wonders with the Blue Whale in such a short time. She is now fully rigged up to give a multi-media show of her great and noble fight against the nefarious forces of the RIP. My tri-D Ensign's log is much in use, with many more people crammed into the cargo hold to see it than you would think possible (due to that great 26Mu/hull design of the QSN vessels). When the RIP Red Canary turns and flees there is seldom a dry eye in the house. There is also a full-size animated gray statue of Lord Dim of Wit drooling and sneering and saying over and over again: "I ordered it. It was my doing. I want the credit." All in all it is proving to be a major fundraiser for the newly remodeled Retired MerchantPerson's home on Unitredd. I also plan to direct at least 10% of Lord Dim's reparation payments for the Blue Whale damages to this worthy cause. Until I arrive on Ilium Novum and reluctantly take up the wearying septure of command, I wish you all the best of health and good tidings. Warm regards, Lord Nicholas Van Rijn QSN Ilium Novum ------------------------------ From: LUDENDORF@delphi.com Date: Fri, 21 Jul 1995 22:56:10 -0400 (EDT) Subject: BSE: RIP strike back RIP screw up again. At a press conference at IMP Jax, with ITS APD, J. Hoffa, when asked if it was true that the RIP attacked and derelicted the Imperial Transport Service ship, Chrysotile, APD Hoffa had this to say: Dat's Imperial Teamsters Service, youse maggots... <a man with dark sunglassess and wearing a dark suit, standing behind Hoffa whispers something in his ear, and he goes pale> ...er, sorry, slip uh da tongue. As I was saying, yes it's true the ship was attacked. Isn't da foist time a ITS ship has been attacked by da RIP, 'n it won't be da last. However, Skragg proved himself an incompetent at battle in that wit all his boastin' on da public commlinks dat he would destroy da ship, he totally failed ta do so. And, he also failed miserably as a pirate, in dat instead uh capturin' de cargo, like any pirate in his right mind would do, his squadron of 3 capital RIP ships (2 Corsair & 1 War Cruiser), concentrated fire on da Main section and destroyed da cargo. Real bright boy... da weapons da ship was relocatin' to a different IMP naval base, woulda greatly benefitted da RIP. What does Skragg do? He blows 'em up, and takes worthless stellars instead. <APD Hoffa?> Yeah, youse in da back row from da Associated Press. <Is it true that a squadron has been launched to intercept the RIP?> Naw. At first da boss was gonna send a squadron of the 1st Fleet, but den he gots ta thinkin' he smells a rat. ITS ships don't use the same route twice. And while it's possible dat da RIP stumbled across the ship purely by dumb luck, some other possibilities also come ta mind. So now da entire 1st fleet is setting sail ta sweep the system and surroundin systems, while da 4th Reserve fleet is being pulled outta mothballs to take it's place. <The 1st fleet is a combat veteran fleet, having been responsible for the capture or destruction of over 50 capital RIP ships, and the destruction of the Foelian fleet in the 4th battle of RIP Upreach, without ever incurring a loss in any of those battles. What sector will be left undefended by these veterans, only to be protected by a green fleet?> None a youse business. Dey may be green, but dey's every bit as well armed to defend their sector. Enuff question, I has work ta do. As Mr. Hoffa is escorted from the podium, this reporter wonders when Lord Gression will terminate the incompetent Capt. Skragg who seems to be following in the footsteps of Adm. Jensen. One even wonders, since they exhibit similar incompetence, if they are related. We see from the press handout the following figures for the last 2 years: IMP inflicted losses on the RIP: 57 RIP ships (all classes, including the 2 recent WC's) 5 RIP colonies (above numbers do not include any losses inflicted by other than IMP) approx: 30K stellars captured from the various colonies/ ships RIP inflicted losses on IMP: 3 ISS scouts (ISS Ima Loa, ISS Harlequin, & a newbie) 2 hiports 1 SH's cargo approx. 15K stellars This is Joe Bob Briggs for UPI News signing off. ------------------------------ From: "Cap'n Scragg" <scragg@infi.net> Date: Sat, 22 Jul 1995 00:34:07 +0000 Subject: Re: BSE: RIP strike back Hmm for being incompetent I don't feel to bad. The first leg of the journey was made via intercolony bus under the name of "Hyman Hyding", which apparently fooled the tall gray shaped creatures who were examining the passenger lists of every departing vehicle, and handing out flyers with my picture on them, and the words "have you seen this merchant". It is likely that the joke nose and glasses I picked up at the last minute in the gift shop got me past the strange little man with a hook for a right arm, a pegleg, a patch over one eye and a parrot on his shoulder that kept calling him "Capt'n Lucky". This man also seemed to have a set of flyers. My enemies are legion. Anyway, I'll postmark this letter from Fet Clove before I catch the CENSORED to CENSORED, which I have been assured "once did the Kessel run in under 40 parsecs, kid". A change in plans means I won't be able to get to an open communicator until August 7th when I am safely arrived at Ilium Novum. I will also post this on an open channel so interested parties may see that you are acting in my behalf during this period. All the cargo and repair losses I itemized are valid [OOC - this is true] and can be formally documented if need be once I reach Ilium Novum. The information you requested earlier (earnings records, crew medical claims, etc.) will also be made available at that time. Until then, I would encourage you to proceed in the following areas: 1. Currently Assessed damages Continue to press for the prompt FGZ payment of 123,000+ stellars to Ilium Novum. Lord Dim of Wit seems to be working himself into a frothing rage over this meager claim (there was even a not-so-subtle threat of worsening IMP-FGZ relations in the posting of his last hireling). I will sleep better once that check has cleared. 2. Additional damagaes Regarding the "Loss of Use" and "Pain and Suffering" claims: assuming that the ISP PD continues to hold to his present position, we need to find a civil court with the appropriate jurisdiction to take this on. I defer to your knowledge in such matters. One obvious consideration in selecting a new venue is the degree to which the court can enforce its judgements. As you rightly point out, this will be a key factor in deciding whether justice is fully served in this matter. A nice touch would be to subpena the big gray oaf himself, and present a few of the widows and orphans created when his cowardly forces bushwacked those two defenseless merchant ships. This Quman-interest stuff can be dynamite when played correctly. I trust our association will prove mutually beneficial, and feel comfortable that I have left these matters in such capable hands.
