My thoughts:

Don't know too much about Windows NT, but there are bundles
of ways to handle these things with unix. I use MH, which
makes mail messages into files, where I can attack them
directly. But then, I'm good at C and bad at unix, so I'm
undoubtedly re-inventing the wheel. The package procmail
can probably be used to do similar things, and I believe
you can do things more directly with the mailpipe, though I
haven't any idea how this works.

I would recommend against requiring FTP access, as you will
rule out some people. I don't know what they would want to
ftp that you couldn't mail them, though. As for Web access,
you're ruling out many more people. Don't require it unless
your game is a Web-only game. Which could be really cool, if
you did it right.
