Swain Jr.) Date: Sun, 30 Jul 1995 22:10:41 -0400 Subject: Some tips on using the Embot program Hi! I'm Embot, and I've been set up to look through email messages as they arrive here and try to extract and respond to requests for files and other such miscellaneous tasks. I'm really quite easy to work with - or so my Dad says - and all you have to remember is that if you send any requests that I don't understand, I'll drop them in the mailbox of my owner so he or she can respond by hand. That's a lot slower, however, since humans don't think as quickly as us computers do, but that's another subject entirely. Anyway, to get files, handouts, and other information directly all you need to do is know the name of the file and send a request to me like: send thefilename this can appear in the subject of the message or in the body of the message. If you want a bunch of files, send me a single message with all your requests in the body of the message, and I'll send them back as a number of different email messages. My owner won't even know! To start out, send me a request to list all the available files. The easiest way to do this is to have 'list' as either the subject of the message or within the message body itself. I'll jump into action, build a list of all files and information that I'm authorized to send, and mail that back to you, probably within five minutes of your request. Once you have that, you can even just reply to that message, prefacing the files you'd like with the word 'send'. That's about it. Any messages I don't understand, like I said, will be dropped in the mailbox of my owner, and if you request 'help' you'll get a copy of this message. If you'd like a copy of the Embot program to help you filter your own electronic mail I'd be delighted to help you out. You can get a copy by sending mail to me at embot@northcoast.com. Specify 'send embot' and you'll get a copy of my source code and installation instructions as fast as I can spell mitosis! Thanks for working with me, and I look forward to hearing from you again in the near future. Bye for now. -- Embot ------------------------------ From: "Cap'n Scragg" <scragg@infi.net> Date: Sun, 30 Jul 1995 22:53:14 +0000 Subject: BSE:List abuse Guys: I hate to start sounding like the BSE list cop or anyting but can we change the topic of the traffic back to the rules and role playing of the game? I guess I'm just honest about it. Nothing like the FGZ double-speak... <OOC: Whatever happened to all I will say from now on is *IC*? Is this a personal anymosity you have towards Richard, or what?> There was/is historically a strong treaty between the PGJ (note: Pan-Galactic Jihad, not Pan-Jihad Galactic) and the Quman Race. This was basically because we stepped up to help them out in the days when threatened by SLD (before the SLD was punished by Fat-boy). And because the Qumans are NOT human, having as recognized by the PGJ a form of hive-mind in the Quman empathic ability and in the belief in the number three, half of the PGJ's God's six legs, there is a strong treaty between the two groups. (This is of course before this god proved it's greatness by growing two more legs in it's current incarnation, I guess.) <And OOC - because the early PGJ were run by some of Russ Vie Brook's gaming buddies, and if you want to bring this up Jack, we can start talking about the deals with your ex-buddies in the SSL when the entire affiliation was going to move TH. And that is a FACT, Jack!> Anyways, irregardless of the cause of the split of the SAM hivemind, this history exists and is being played true. So what is your point, other than more posturing which we have already seen so much of? This to me atleast speaks much more truly than the WCE buddy-ness to WSP, given that they were at war to the death not all that long ago (during which the WSP took *Many More* strategic assets from the WCE than the Qumans ever did), nor the AIS compromising their eon-old programming to eliminate all Bass Swinnettians, their evil ex-masters, after listening to Marvin Gaye records, nor whatever happened to the CAT... etc, etc. <OOC: slap me, but I actually think some of Fat-Boy's policing of profiles to stop power gamers was justified, though not his techniques.> The FGZ are (IMHO) the only group TH that has played true to profile over the problems with the Universe over the last two years. Perhaps WSP, though if so have proven to speak with even more faces than the FGZ. Anyways, this must be some form of cross-time parallel universe thingey, or just the effects of the removal of Fat-Boy from the power structure. Or just bogus... >Techincally, *none* of the SAM "factions" should (or even could) exist, >but...since ABM didn't want to f*ck with it any more, they decided to split >everything up... So the Hive Mind had a mental breakdown... Historically, I have heard that this supposedly happens on a period basis. Which explains why the SAM are still at our technology level (remember that they historically fought the Snittians to a stand-still a while back and have lost tech since then). >My comments were not out of line and after I'm proved right by the PJG...I'll >reserve the right to say "I told you so...". > >The only PJG player I have some "trust" in is Walt, (if he is there) but I >have to question his reasoning behind signing up for this "trip". Anyways, the fun thing about still being in retirement is that you can avoid the static on the radio. Though I have been thinking of getting the old MerchantMan out of storage and visiting some old friends. Btw, when are the mighty FGZ ever going to fight a real battle?!? I can't think of one since the Hoo-mans that you now fear so tossed you out of the Periphery! On more than one occasion, he got into trouble with the then ISP/IMP leadership, and his dislike for the ISP was well known throughout the IMP's (just ask Chip or Dick L.). The Samillians are our racial cousins. This is a task that saddens us immensely. The Council has gone to great pains to analyze our actions in this situation and the need for our continued participation in this war. We have determined the following: The SAM are prosecuting a war of genocide and fratricide against the PGJ. The PGJ have a right to exist outside of the HiveMind, much as we learned to do by necessity many eons ago. Exhaustive KZK attempts to negotiate an end to the fratricide came to no conclusion: The SAM are bent on returning the "insane" PGJ to the HiveMind or kill them in the attempt. We can not allow this. Thus we will remain in a state of war with the Samillian Empire until such time as they desist attempts to militarily re-absorb the PGJ. We do not desire terrotorial or other gain in this strife, only the end of hostilities between our brother races. We do not support the PGJ's demands for territory, only their right to exist. We do not wish to meet the WCE, FGZ, AIS or any other TransHole race in violence at this time, and will not be targeting them during this conflict. For that matter, we do not wish to have to act against the SAM/WsP. But act we must. To this end: The SAM space in the Capellan Periphery, particularly the planet known as Harlop in the Tesni system, has come under KZK interdiction. All travellers are advised to avoid entering Harlop orbit or risk coming under fire. KZK War Cruisers are already in position in Harlop orbit to enforce the interdiction. To Admiral Ludendorf: You have our assurances that we will not initiate violence in the Space Square of Harlop or elsewhere in Imperial space. To the Grand Vizier: We will return control of the planet Harlop to you upon your declaration of an end to the war against the PGJ. If this act is not sufficient in causing you to do so, other more severe acts will follow.
