Kill any spys they send into your area as they are > exploring to find new lands to conquer. > > Dave Harris > "Knights of the Whiterose" Except, of course, I have done no such thing, and the above are certainly not my intentions. There was a dispute between the Reservoir Dogs and the House of Azthar over who would be the new master of lands left unclaimed when the Maurahiannons abruptly and mysteriously disappeared from the face of Atlantis, but I would hardly call anyone engaged in hostilities over the possession of land (to which neither had any better claim than the other) an "innocent trader". But even for all that, I (The Welcoming Hand) was not involved in any of the combat that took place. At the time of the combat I am aware of, I had recently switched from War/Trade to Trade, and sold all my troops to the Dogs. Add to all that that _I_ have actually had "innocent traders" (a one man trade representative unit in Arlon) slaughtered by Renaissance and the Picts, the supposed defenders of Monzon. This happened purely because they took over the town of Arlon and wanted to "ethnically cleanse" it of all non-allied factions, and there was no provocation on my part. I realize that is the norm for xenophobic Atlantis-style play, and so do not reproach them for it (it is only a game, after all), but it is rather hypocritical to accuse me of engaging in activities that are actually perpetuated by the War factions "defending" the Monzon area. And I put "defending" in quotes on purpose, because I fail to see any high moral ground that they might claim to occupy. Indeed, I suspect that they are the forces behind the slander of me, motivated by the desire to obtain the support of oblivious factions in the Monzon area for their future military actions. Of course, I have no proof. And whom have _I_ been aggressive towards in the Monzon area, I ask you? Certainly not you -- I've never had any dealings with you. Yet I do have successful Trade dealings with factions in Monzon, that have involved mutual trust on both sides. As for the intentions of my scouts, they are to provide mapping information for the only _publicly shared_ Atlantis mapping project in the game, the Cartographers Cooperation Consortium, WHICH I AM THE FOUNDER OF. (Of course, you might not know this, as I don't recall ever seeing your email address among the list of contributors -- I imagine you are too self-interested for such a thing). If I were so intent on scouting for the purposes of conquest, why, I ask, would I have allowed the most detailed information in the CCC to be about _my_ home-base area (the Abernethy area)? Were I like most paranoid War factions in this game, I would regard the details of my home-area as an important military secret, not to be shared with the world, since it better allows invading forces to plan their military activities. Instead, this information is freely published, available to any who contribute to either the CCC or the Platinum Map. I submit that your information about my faction's hitory and intentions is mistaken. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you have been duped by the propaganda of factions with hidden agendas, rather than assume you are actually a liar. In the future, I advise you to try to learn both sides of a story, before you go off half-cocked and believe the first (probably biased) line you are fed. Flames to me personally. No need to clutter the list with them (though I will continue to respond to any public slander, as I think anyone would.) There are two ways to do this : GIVE 999 1 "MAGIC SWORD" or GIVE 999 1 MAGIC_SWORD hence it is the same as any other string in the game - it has to have quotes round it or underlines instead of the spaces Jon. Date: Thu, 10 Aug 1995 17:09:04 +0100 (BST) Greetings all! This is a message on behalf of the DOMINION alliance. Some of our fellow Atlanteans may have noticed the arrival of the Official DOMINION Homepages, located within easy reach of Jon's Atlantis Page (URL Below). Growing rapidly, they contain useful information about who we are, what lands we claim, and lots of artwork depicting our activities, amongst other things. Feel free to browse and let us know what you think! Secondly : The DOMINION has a vacancy for an additional Magic Faction. Applicants will benewer factions based in either Oranmore or able to leave Atlantis City entirely this turn before the exit closes. The successful applicant will initially have at least one mage and be preparedto become full magic ASAP. Any soldiers or producers that would become uselessas a result of this can be bought by the DOMINION, but obviously we would prefer it to already be full magic. It will receive protection and income for its studies, as well as any other DOMINION resources it needs. Aquisition of certain spells for all mages will be required, but time will be allowed for personal study and gain. It is likely that several of the faction's mages will have to be "On duty" i.e. performing general magic tasks as asked, at any one time. Other benefits will accrue as the successful applicant proves to be trustworthy. Applications should be made to Lord Viper (address below) and should contain significant details of your faction's current status and location. our regards, The DOMINION. contact details : Lord Viper. If you have a normal sword and a magic one, how do you give >away the magic one? First things first: if ever you need to use a multi-word name in an order (give, name, describe, cast, produce, study, and maybe a few more might require this) then you must enclose the name in double quotes ("). Thus, the order should probably be: give 999 1 "magic sword" Secondly, you should be careful with orders checkers and items/spells/etc. that are not listed in the rules. I don't know whether Jonathan's checker will handle the order even with the quotes, but if you are the first to discover a new "special" item, then you can be sure that no turn checker will handle it right off the bat.
