Playtesting "Trojan War" From: chris@sin.ceramatec.com (Chris) Date: Thu, 10 Aug 1995 00:00:00 +0000 The Trojan War An Overview The Trojan War is a module of the "Conflict of Interest" game, run by Intermountain Games. It is a wargame which approximates the dynamics of the heroic age of Greece and its neighbors. It assumes that the rich tapestry of legends, gods and personalities are real, and recreates the situation at the start of the early exploration of the Agean, Asia Minor, and the Greek mainland. Each player plays the King ruling an independant Greek city state, or near neighbor (like Troy). How history progresses is entirely up to the assembled players, and it should be interesting to see how history is either duplicated or diverged from. Each player starts with a city, a small army, a combination of leaders, spies, and priests. Each player also has a certain advantage not shared by any other players. Some of these are military, others economic. These secrets may be captured by other powers, so guard your secret carefully. While there are certain victory conditions common to all positions, each player has special victory conditions unique to his position. Every game may have these special victory conditions changed to some degree, to keep the suspense in the game, even if playing more than one game. There will be two initial playtest games which may be played for a one-time fee of $25.00. One will be an email game with deadlines every week, and the other will be a PBM version, with a 2 week TAT. Expect modifications to the game while the game is in progress, if you are playing in the playtest game. Only one position may be played by the same player in the same game. Please submit a list of position preferences from among the following powers: Ithaca, Crete, Attica, Mycenae, Troy, Lydia, Rhodos, Paeonia, Illyrica, Pylos, Boeotia, Thessaly. We will try and make your selection as close to your favorite as possible, but cannot guarantee a specific position. You may indicate that you are willing to wait for a new game to open to play a specific position. In this case, $25.00 will hold your position. Once regular games commence, there will be a choice of a one-time fee per game, to be determined, or a set fee of $25.00 per turn for the first 10 turns, then $3.50 per turn for the remainder of the game. Once a player starts at a certain turn price level, the player may continue to play at that price, in perpetuity, as long as the game is active, and the player has an active account. Players, therefore, are protected from future price increases. Players will have a $5.00 game credit added to their account for each new player which signs up for a new game, after that player has completed 10 turns with the company. Winners of each normal game will receive a plaque honoring the achievement of winning The Trojan War.
