PFL -- Pengar Football League starting From: chad@xmission.com (Chad Leigh) Date: Sun, 13 Aug 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Not exactly Fantasy Football. In the PFL you draft a team made up of NFL stars! Then you manage and coach the team as it plays in computer simulated games! The decisions you reach will affect the outcomes. Weekly games are held (to be simulated at the Pengar Football League stadium :-) computer of Pengar Enterprises, Inc. All stats, numbers, results, reports will be made available by WWW and ftp so you can plan for next weeks game! There will be 16 games plus playoffs and the Super Pengar Bowl. Regular season is 17 weeks. 6 divisions each with 4 teams. Each team plays every other team in its division 2 times. Other game pairings randomly scheduled. Playoffs held between division winners plus a wildcard round of the top four nondivision winner teams. Entry is $30. There will be cash prizes (see below). 3 free trades. Excess trades are $3 each. Every other paid trade increases the prize money pool! No other fees (except optional draft PLUS fee described below) The league consists of 24 teams. There will be a "Star Draft" of the top 48 players as well as position drafts for "RBs", "QBs", "Receivers", "Offensive Line", "Defensive Line", "Linebackers" "Defensive Backs", "Kickers", "Misc". The Position drafts will contain all those players from real NFL teams 1st and 2nd strings (and maybe some 3rd strings) who are not in the top 48 NFL players. Each team will be assigned 2 draft positions in the star draft randomly. Each team will also get assigned positions in teh position drafts based on point bidding. Each team owner gets 55 points for the position drafts and can bid anywhere from 0 to all 55 points for a position in a position draft. The position drafts picking order is assigned by who bids the most points in each draft. For example, a coach/manager/team owner (You!!!) could bid 20 points for the QB draft, 10 for the RB draft, 10 for the DBack draft, 5 for each Receiver, OLine and DLine and 0 for the rest. If he/she bids the highest in any category, he/she gets 1st pick! Ties will be randomly distributed. The "Star Draft" positions will be randomly determined by use of "percentile dice" generating a number from 1-100. You can get extra points added to your number by paying $1-$5 extra registration. Each $1 gets you +5 to your roll to a maximum of +25. This simulates those teams that have higher payrolls and have traded up in the draft. There is no requirement to pay extra and you can still get the first draft pick in the star draft by getting the highest number rolled. All "extra" money for better odds on draft picks must be pledged and paid before the roll happens. Each rounds positions are determined individually. (Extra PLUSes added to both die rolls). Prizes: Winning the Super Pengar Bowl $80 Losing the Super Pengar Bowl $45 Winning Division $25 Winning Wildcard Game $10 The rest of the prizes are minimum $10-$25 max for the following categories: Team with top individual passing yards Team with top individual rushing yards Team with top overall team yards (total running and passing offense) Team with most TDs Team with most Field Goals Team with most penalties (not penalty yards) Team with worst overall record (ties either determined by die roll or $ split -- we can vote on this) The prizes for the above are $10. If a team trades more than three times in the season, then a trade costs $3. Every other $3 we collect on trading fees will go into the prize pot and increase the "team" prizes above (not winning/losing prizes) to a max of $25 each. If we still have extra prize money due to trades, we will make some new prize categories (as follows): Team throwing most interceptions Team fumbling the most Team sacking the most enemy QBs to be determined if we really need it. League will not happen and all entry fees returned if we don't get a minimum of 18 teams entered. If we get more than 24 entries, a second league will be started if we get at least 18 entries for the second league. If any league does not have all 24 team slots filled, the prize money will be reduced according to the percentage of empty team slots. (ie 18 teams is 25% reduction, while 22 teams is only 8% reduction in prize amounts). Truth in advertising statement: A little over of 50% of the fee money is being used to provide the prizes, the rest is going to cover the administrative costs to Pengar Enterprises, Inc. for running the league. A complete 24 team league equals $720 in entry fees with $365 pledged to prize money. Each team will assume a fictitious name. No real NFL team names are used.
