I mean, by now, most people must have known I've been teaching OBS 5 in atlantis city for about 1 Atlantean year! I'm not going to say which faction it was, but its faction number was below 400, so you'd have thought they'd have known by now! Tut Tut. Oh well, keep on trying! Lord Viper. House Banshee (217) of the DOMINION. Date: Tue, 15 Aug 1995 16:28:24 +0100 (BST) Dear Atlantean Police Dept, It's about time I made a personal complaint about you. Many others have done before now, but now you're trying to slander me, and I don't like that. I don't often get chance to read the times, but I browsed through today for a change, and ended up reading your rather pathetic article. I mean, at least most factions who just want the money have the decency to just send in a one-liner, but no, not you! You have to write a large load of pointless (stuff) that we've all heard before. You've never once named a single real thief - I know the name of every thief who's been active in Atlantis City ever, and you've notgot one of them! And now you have suggested the ludicrous idea that my units of minions in the city are there as a fighting force to attack the guards! Now I've had all thisconversation on this list before, but I would have thought if you had an ounceof intelligence you'd have been worried about the threat from outside AtlantisCity. It is fairly obvious that within several months there's going to be a sizeable invasion of War factions after the Atlantis City tax money (this might not be so, but depends upon the specifics of a certain spell). I am a magic faction, but will violently defend AC. against any action againstthe guards. I know there are many other factions here who would do the same. Anyway, the only reason I haven't assassinated you by now is that you are too scared to reveal your faction number(s). What? You didn't know I had assassinsin Atlantis City? Well you can't know much about thievery, then can you! I hope someone accidentally kills your faction off without realising it. It would make many people very happy. Just Go Away. Lord Viper. House Banshee (217) of the DOMINION. Date: Tue, 15 Aug 1995 17:13:14 +0100 (BST) WOW! Another times article about our faction. However, in contrast to the Atlantean Police Dept, who are Kak, these guys have got it nearly right! (one or two missing, though!) And we quote : ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The following evil bastards were seen thieving in our fair Atlantis City during the month of March. Bad bad bad... Balitok the Deadly Shadow (358) steals 200 silver from Unit (6374). Lady Venom (520) steals magic wagon from Obsidian (1159). Silk (2584) steals horse from Unit (1579). Such heathens... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well yes we're heathens, and no we won't return the magic wagon. What the other guys do is between them and their targets. It took Lady Venom 15 months study (no training as she was the among the first to study the art), and some $1000 of our starting $5000 silver, to reach her current status, and if that doesn't give her the right to pinch the odd little magic item, then I don't know what else does! We pick our targets well, and have a whole flotilla more thieves (and assassins) about to go active in the City. This is hardly surprising as Lord Viper wasthe first person to ever suggest an assassins guild in Atlantis (way back at turn 2 year 0). The fact that people know we have thieves active in the city does not bother us - we don't steal from our allies or people we're doing business with as a general rule, and people know that in everyday dealings we are entirely reasonable traders. Also, everyone knows that Lord Viper is the perfect match of Lady Venom - he has OBS 5 (well, it's actually OBS 7 now), and has been offering training in that skill, along with obs protection from thievery, for many months now. The protection had to stop, as people were abusing the ally tag we gave them, but they did get it :) If we steal from you, you should be flattered - we sort the atlantis city unitlist by individual faction, and pick our targets *very carefully* to yield maximum profit. We have never "hit" the same faction twice (there's plenty to go around), and generally we're as polite and professional about it as you can get. Generally, we're pleased for whoever it is who has reached OBS 5 and is able to see our activities. We hope that it was our training that helped you get there! May you all live long and have happy lives, Lord Viper and Lady Venom. House Banshee (217) of the DOMINION. I'm selling 1 of this amazing item for the low price of 1000 silver! Think of your 1-man unit with one of these! This is only for those with the privelege of residing in atlantis city, so if you live there, act now and be the first to ask. The first reply is the only one i'll deal with, so answer as fast as you can. I need your faction number (so i can declare it friendly) and the unit to give the gloves to. If you got the deal, i'll mail you a message with a heading like "You got the gloves!" That message will have my faction number (so you can declare it friendly) and the unit with the gloves. WARNING. Spoiler ahead. Don't read on if you want to discover what the gloves do on your own. GLOVES OF STRENGTH: These give you +2 attack and give you 5 attacks per round! They can even be used with SWORDS! Imagine it and a sword with your 1-man combat 4 orc unit! COMBAT 8! 5 attacks a round! With any other type of unit (other than leader) that is specialized in combat and fully trained (almost all races are specialized in combat) you have a combat 7 unit with 5 attacks a round! ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Mariann Azimi-Vahdat <m93mav@student.tdb.uu.se> Date: Tue, 15 Aug 1995 19:48:31 +0200 Subject: Jaca Assassins' Guild Greetings, Explain yourself. Sir, I would like to protest the unfair judgement that a peaceful tradesman like myself would be "deemed as unhealthy to the well-being of others in the Jaca region." This is utterly ridiculous! I have no weapons, no stealth or combat training, and do not have the means (or the inclination!) to do anything but trade. As a recent arrival in this fair city, I have not yet had the opportunity to participate in much activity at all, let alone anything subversive or destructive. I want to give a unit to a war faction. Can I have the unit I am giving to the war faction tax? My thinking is that the unit being transferred to the war faction should be able to tax because give comes before tax in game time. i.e. I think the faction will belong to a war faction before it taxes, so it ought to be able to tax. What in the world had my people done that is so horrible? I could understand you saying that my troops with combat are harmful, but my mage? He's not much right now, and I know he hasn't done anything destructive or detrimental to anyone I know of. Also, who is the Assassins' Guild? Why don't they come forward and at least communicate with those people they warned of future assassination? I see quite a few letters out, but no response. Be sure to contact me before attacking so I at least know why my troops are dying. Second, for those of you who do not read the Times or did not make it all the way down to my article, I am offering OBS training to level 2. This is especially important with assassins running around town, though I'm not sure how effective level 2 will be. Also, Gloves of Strength will be available by order, with half of the payment due before delivery. OBS training will be 20 SIL per person, with a 10% discount for orders of four or more people. Gloves of Strength will be available, and prices are negotiable, though they should not be less than 500 SIL for consideration. Third and finally, I need more training in OBS so that I'm not assassinated, and for future protection. Anyone willing to train above level 2? Also, what are the better mittens refered to in the past weeks mailing, the ones that are better than the Gloves of Strength? What foundations are needed to create them? Same for the headware of vision improvement (name altered here for those who don't want to know)? Thanks for your time and I apologize for the length of my rambling. Sir, I am but an honest mage about to begin my study in the mystic ways. I have just moved to Jaca. This will be my third turn this month. This is my First Restart if you are wondering why I am only up to my third turn, due to being the unfortunate victim of a play test error. I assume you determined me as "deemed as unhealthy to the well-being of the others in the Jaca region" because I have studied OBS. This is all I have done. All I was doing was just trying to see what was going on around me. My intentions in the fine city of Jaca are to study magic and then to perhaps start up a mage school. I do not have anything but good intentions for the city of Jaca. I would appreciate it if you would be able to get in contact with me at cjh@ecr.mu.oz.au so that we may clear this little misunderstanding up.
