Conquistador PBEM ends From: A.Poulter@lut.ac.uk (Alan Poulter) Date: Mon, 21 Aug 1995 00:00:00 +0000 A long running PBEM of SPI's Conquistador has finally finished. As you can see from the VPs below, England is the clear winner. Spain is second, in front of the Bankers (me). Then come France and finally Portugal. Interestingly, the two countries the Bankers lent most to came first and last! Portugal (David van Hoose) had such appalling luck on events and mining rolls that he needed my loans to stay afloat. England (Matthew Taylor/David Fram) used my loans to establish colonies in good areas in both South and North America and at the end of game pounced on France (Jeremy Williams/Jock Clocherty), then the nearest rival. France had done well up to this point, having recovered lots of gold from Tenochitlan. Spain (Kevin Croskery) after having his treasure fleet sink early on, slowly built up his colonies and fortunes to finish second. All in all, I found the game a very enjoyable experience, and reasonably straightforward to run. It took a while though (nearly a year).
