WADR, your views on the combat system would not be shared by many of the
players in the game, certainly not the veterans.  While it's true that you
don't see the CRTs involved, the overall results of combat for a given
ratio of attack to defense (i.e. 1:1, 3:1 etc.) are little different than
that of (board) wargames I used to play years ago.  Any given battle may
seem 'out of whack', but over a larger sampling they're fairly consistent.

IMHO, much of the bias you exhibit is a direct result of the position
you played (Indonesia) and the few turns you processed.  Early on it is
hard for Indonesia to apply the necessary combat strength to "get out of
the 1:1 doldrums" - and in any combat system 1:1 results are erratic.  I
can only encourage that you do play the game again and give it a longer
try (of course, that may be at the whim of your neighbors <g>)
