HW: Kusan First Turn, Game 543 From: baidins@stimpy.eecis.udel.edu (Juris Baidins) Date: Sat, 02 Sep 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Since this is my first turn of my first Hyborian War game and a number of people wanted to know how it went, I am brazenly and maybe foolishly posting some information about what I did, why and how it turned out. To those whose activities I uncovered, fear not, I only reveal all to those who call or email in exchange for other tidbits. Since my imperial goals and victory conditions are identical and close by, I prepared to grab them, two at time, by issuing orders to invade the Kusan Steppes and the Swampy Jungles. I also recruited troops, trying for 30, but got only 15. Most of the court (the characters) did mundane diplomatic and spy duty. I peaced Hyrkania and the Eastern Deserts (who are about to get a rude awakening), but failed to peace the Jaga Tribes, which is a little bit annoying (I wonder if my "hero's" adventure had anything to do with it). The king ruled and did well. Spies uncovered that neither Khitai nor Hyrkania where attacking in directions that would concern me and interestingly enough, both offered alliances ?! (On the assumption that Kusan would be NPC or as a friendly gesture ?). Address requests indicate that Khitai and Hyrkania are real people. The chancellor (incompetent) and adjutant general (too old) were sent adventuring, where both died as expected. The replacements are young and the new chancellor knows the Bless spell, which will help him rule. Told to see the world, the heir traveled through the wilderness, stumbling through the darkness and battling phantoms, gaining surprisingly not heroism or combat skill, but rather intrigue. The real surprise was "my hero" K'chin Pantung (any relation to Conan or perhaps one of Conan's aliases). Told to spy out the military of the Kusan Steppes, he decides to go adventuring (lesson, do not trust a hero to do something that must be done THIS turn). First, slipping into the Wuhuan Bogs, he lightens the treasury of the Eastern Jungles. In the mountains of the Jaga Tribes, he protects a noble from many a blade and rewarded well. In the Khitai Escarpment, he fights his way to the leadership of the Kusan Raiders bandits, raiding and plundering many a traveler and returning with a "rich reward" (perhaps Khitai decide not to notice this, since after all the Great Desert did get an unexpected rainfall). Finally, he turns to the Jaga Tribes again and seeks out Kiongwe Kikuyu, slips past the villain's guards, fights a duel knocking out Kikuyu and brings him back for the dungeons. In all, he brought in a quarter of the earnings this peace year. No ransom is set for Kikuyu and I see no place to set it (customer service problem ?). Who is Kiongwe Kikuyu ? The world spies brought in a lot of good stuff and I got two more agents (new) who are quite frankly only worthy of being world spies. Interesting turn... -- Juris Baidins baidins@cis.udel.edu Referenced By Up
