OLY: breaking Beastmastery From: bobfry@crl.com (Robert Fry) Date: Wed, 27 Sep 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I do think Beastmastery could be made more in line with the rest of the game without some of the 'draconian' measures people have suggested. The two biggest problems it has are the expense of human armies and the relative speed with which beasts can be bred. For example, it's roughly as fast to breed winged horses as it is to catch and train Riding horses. More powerful beasts can be raised just as fast. Somehow, making dragons cost the same as Riding Horses (even if there's a longer ramp-up time) doesn't seem well-balanced. And then there's the fact that a dragon requires less maintenance than a peasant, as well as being able to take on 15 of them with little or no risk to himself. It seems obvious that Beasts should take longer to breed, based on their power, and then requires some sort of maintenance costs. That would make them into something comparable to any other unit, wouldn't it? Personally, I'll be glad to see what Rich has done in G2, as soon as I can, and continue breeding my dragons in G1 for as long as it's profitable. Bob Up
