ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #143 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Sun, 01 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Errors to csd@microplex.com Now there should be a digest whenever (a) there are 10 emails or (b) whenever there is an email waiting for more than 48 hours for a digest to be completed. So don't get worried if the digest has only 1 or 2 emails, that just means the list has been slow. (I hope it works) If you want previous versions, they are available via WWW at http://www.microplex.com/~csd/atlantisv2/ ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 28 Sep 1995 10:43:28 -0400 From: roy@acasun.eckerd.edu (Jonathan Roy) Subject: turnchecker is moving I'm losing the roy@eckerd.edu address, so please send all future turnchecking stuff to roy@pobox.com. I was afraid at first when I saw the size of their army. I was also a little confused as to why a big, powerful alliance would come conquer an area made up entirely of small newbie factions trying to scrape together some kind of living. I read some of the correspondence that was being passed around and I began to feel more at ease. They promised that despite their intentions of conquering the city, that they would rule peacefully and justly. I was begining to feel a little more comfortable. Now a new situation has developed. The PCP has been trying to extort magic items from the mages in Jaca. They have said, in so many words, that they could either produce items for them or risk their wrath. And now, most recently, I have found that I have been placed on their "hitlist". It seems that they had no intention of contacting me at all. They were simply going to eliminate my faction. I have never done anything to them, and yet they feel the need to destroy me. Why is that? Are these the actions of a peaceful and just ruler? Jaca will fall this coming turn and I may fall as well. And after that, the PCP will likely eliminate all the newbie factions in the Jaca area. All I can say is why does PCP feel it necessary to destroy a bunch of newbies. I can't wait for Atlantis 3. We thought about hiring the services of Lance Lunchnik and the Litigators to file suit, but then a more obvious and less costly solution occurred to us! But to set the record straight: > To whom it may concern: > > The PCP has invaded the peaceful city of Jaca. *Peaceful??* Hmmm. Followers of the Times and player-list may draw their own conclusions. We can say with some authority that Jaca will very soon become peaceful, at least as *we* define the term ;-) > I was afraid at first > when I saw the size of their army. I was also a little confused as to > why a big, powerful alliance would come conquer an area made up entirely > of small newbie factions trying to scrape together some kind of living. Why, so that we can choose a couple of Pirate-minded factions and help them not *have* to scrape by? Or maybe we're just bad-tempered. ;-) > Now a new situation has developed. Yer either with us or agin' us, mate. We treat our magic factions right! And if any of our fair readers are oppressed and stifled mages, selling potions just to get by, frightened of the big bad war-factions next door, just a note to our mate Khaine (vlatimer@hilbert.maths.utas.edu.au) could turn your fortunes around! > > Are these the actions of a peaceful and just ruler? It's not clear from the rules if when an attack takes place: a) does only the defender get support from adjacent hexes or b) does both the attacker and defender get support. e.g. if I have a single scout in hex 1,1 and massive numbers of troops in hex 1,2, and the scout in hex 1,1 attacks a unit, do the troops in hex 1,2 automatically support the attack by the scout? If it's not automatic, is there a way to direct the troops in hex 1,2 to support the attack in hex 1,1? Or is it that defenders have an advantage in that only they are supported by their units in adjacent hexes? I.e. must all attacking units be in the hex where the attack takes place? Thanks a lot.
