AG: HT & auto-regeneration From: "T. Woods" <twoods@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu> Date: Sun, 08 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Since I'm currently running a half-troll I was curious about how the auto-regeneration works. I called Ent. Plus and got ahold of Bob. Asked him some things about auto-regeneration. From what he said it looked as if the frequency of auto-regeneration never changes. It's not affected by level in regeneration, stamina, activity, nothing. In fact auto-regeneration has a set time interval between occurences, but what we see in print-outs aren't necessarily "real time". As characters get faster they can take more actions in the same amount of time, thus it could appear as power level goes up that the occurences of auto-regeneration goes DOWN. Decided to share this info with other HT's (what, me keep something like this a secret?! :-). I was told by some of them that Hugh had told them (is this third or second hand information? :-) that level in regeneration DOES affect frequency of auto-regeneration. So decided to double check with Hugh. This was the GM note questions and the replies. " I asked Bob once about automatic regeneration intervals. He said that it was a set time interval between atuo regenerations. The level in regeneration did not affect the frequency of the auto regenerations." Hugh's Reply to this: " This seems to be true (from all H-T experience)." So right now this is probably true. It could be that non-H-T regenerating creatures are different. Or maybe there will be some change in the system, like something that HT's can get to increase the frequency of auto-regeneration, or maybe at REALLY high levels (10+) the frequency could increased, but right now the interval is set. Another question: "Also I was told that the interval between auto regeneration was a set time interval, but this was "real" time. The duration of a typical battle fight can change due to many factors. As a person gets faster the fights take less "real" time and so in a sense the auto rengerations might seem to occur less often in the fights." Hugh's answer: " Yes, more actions per "round" means more actions between chances to auto-regenerate. " Sometimes it's possible to misinterpret Hugh. Sometimes you just don't ask the right questions. :) But I think this is pretty straighforward. Right now (though it might possibly change) the frequency of auto-regenerations don't change (though they may look like they do). Level DOES affect the amount of damage regenerated during an auto-regeneration. Also remember that stamina affects amount regenerated by a HT, and so I assume it affects auto-regeneration as well. This all has to do with a particular character design that has been kicked around for awhile and which I considered when making my HT. This is the beserk HT. HT's have pretty good natural protection. Stack on good armor, say pain resistance from one of the gods that give it, a low level in Power, and a high level in Beserk and the character would have a VERY good protection factor. When the character goes beserk it would heal up some damage. This is when the auto-regeneration would kick in. It takes A LONG TIME to drop a good beserker. You normally have to slowly nick away at them. This wouldn't work with a beserk auto-regenerating HT, because if you took too long they'd auto regenerate. Regeneration isn't a cheap skill (multiple is 25), but beserk is only 15 multiple for HT's, you only need to get to level 6 to start auto-regenerating, and stamina (a HT's cheapest stat) affects the amount regenerated. Also with a HT's strength multiple they're never going to get the high strengths of ogres, but beserk rage will go a long ways in helping this. I decided not to do this (though I know of a HT who is going to try). The problems I see are two-fold. 1) HT's already have a hard time raising stats. To also require getting 2 skills (one with 15 and one with 25 multiple) to level 6+ will drain alot of ep from stats. This will make the stats of this character design VERY low compared to other characters. 2) The auto-regeneration comes less and less often as other characters get faster and faster. Any other opinions? Advice for the person trying this design? Later, Todd P.S. Stamina affects on Regeneration: 15 +1 dp/regeneration, 20 +2, 25 +3, ect. Think of what a HT with a 35 stamina and level 10 regeneration could do. :) Referenced By Up
