Quest Digest, 7/10/95 From: ">>-Josh->" <J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk> Date: Sat, 07 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 ____________________________________________________________________ | | | THE QUEST DIGEST | | The forum for the E-mailing Quest-players | | Compiled by Josh Gallagher: J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk | | Date: 7th October 1995 | |____________________________________________________________________| o This is not an automatically generated compilation, so if all contributions could be sent to me in a seperate e-mail with paragraphs initialled, I would appreciate it a lot. o Please do not use this list for your own purposes; people do not appreciate thousands of pieces of mail arriving a day! o If you ever want taking off the list, just say, and I will be happy to do so. I don't want telling off for any nuisance mail! o All material here is the exclusive property of the author and may not be used elsewhere without their permission. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Hello again folks! Josh back again, editting the digest. Much thanks to Chris for keeping the list going over the summer. It remains to be seen how many of the addresses are now duds after people lose their accounts, so the list may shrink somewhat in the next couple of weeks. JPG> Firstly I'd like to address the problem of the quotation method. This was brought up in the last digest, I believe, where someone complained that the odd format was coming up with funny colours on the screen. Well, the reason that the digest is in this format is that when someone 'replies' to it, they may want to quote a paragraph in the middle of someone's entry. If this is the case, then the line saying who the article was sent by usually gets lost, and it isn't clear where the paragraph came from. With the initials at the beginning of each paragraph, it is much easier to see who said what. JPG> Okay, on with the submissions. There aren't many this week, as people are doubtless settling in to universities, or perhaps even waiting to see if I'll _bother_ carrying this on! (Yes, sorry it's taken so long!) However, I'm still as eager as ever for your contributions, so if you've got something to say, please email me! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 7 Oct 97 11:03:12 GMT From: Dave Rees <chaos@thanes.demon.co.uk> To : Jan-Ivar Hansen-Bergli From : Dave Rees I have mailled you twice at the following address : jihb0101@toll.telemax.no Both have failed to reach their destination. Please send me another address where I may contact you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 02 Oct 95 09:57:42 BST From: Ian Robert Anderson <phyira@caledonia.hw.ac.uk> The reason I sugested all the different types of combat rounds to be merged together was so that groups that specialise in missile and magic attacks dont have the hideously large advantage they do at the moment, even the most powerful groups can be wiped out by any groups with lots of spellcasters. I see the point about it not being sensible to fire missiles into meele, perhaps limiting them to targeting characters not in melee combat would be sensible. I disagree that mismatched battles will be worse, with this system a mismatched group will have 1 round of melee (remember their wont be as many charcaters in melee so it will be less damaging) 2 lots of missile fire and 2 rounds worth of spellcasting (witch will mean the really nasty spells wont be cast due to the casting time). Where as with the system we have at the moment a group will get 1 round of spellcasting (including any death spells witch makes a big difference) 1 round of missile and 1 round of melee with all 15 characters present. Overall the weak group get's alot hit less in melee, hit about the same in missile, and gets less magic against it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Okay, that's a wrap! Sorry Chris, I lost the new header... using the old one for now... do you want to mail me the new one so I can use that?
