Weapon type, strength, opponents armor, opponents power, your power, weapon
skill and cunning all factor into the damage created.  If you are fighting
someone your power, then the most obvious effects will be from strength.

The following are my opinions only (they are not based on any formula):

Weapon type:  Determines how much damage you can do vs. various armors.

Strength:  The most obvious influence on damage.  If you connect with a
28 str/1 wsp shield, then you will do good damage to creatures below 1000
power.

Power: Your ability to deal and take damage is influenced strongly by
your power.  This is why three 1000 power fighters will rarely defeat one
2500 power fighter.  At GenCon eight 800-1000 power characters went after
a 4000 power character.  Hungry would hit for very heavy damage, but only
minor (or less) damage would actually apply to the 4000 power guy.  And,
Hungry had a 26 str/ lvl 5 Halberd.

Weapon skill:  I have no evidence that this actually increases the damage
done by a weapon.  It will increase the number of critical hits you get,
though...i.e. more damage.

Cunning:  Gets you more critical hits.

These notions are simply from reading my turns.
