Re: New PBM Announcement From: scrtdrgn@ezl.com (Erik Stephans) Date: Thu, 12 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I apologize in advance to Mr. Lamb, as this is not a response to him, but to Mr. Maiden, who's original post I did not see. >In <DGAo70.Jyo@isltd.insignia.com> jeremy@insignia.com (Jeremy Maiden) >writes: >> >>Two bits of unsolicited advice for you: >> >>Presumably this is a general purpose advert written for a different >>audience to r.g.pbm, your (hopefully feigned ) ignorance of computers >>and pbm won't appeal to this group. Why? r.g.pbm is for people that like Play-By-Mail games, which mine is. Seems a perfect place for my advertisement, as I have seen others very similar to it. Plus, the results prove you wrong as the response to the post was more than I expected by a long shot. As far as "ignorance", I have been playing PBM games since the early '80's, commercial & free. I have never found a commercial PBM worth the money because they were always like playing a computer game through the mail on a pay-per-turn basis. Not my cup of tea. As far as not knowing computers,Masters Degree in Comp Sci and Senior Net Administrator for a major corp bears otherwise. But, this experiance has taught me what computers can & cannot do, and they can't do what I want TWoD to do. >>Charging for rules by email is crazy, it just eliminates 99% of >>your potential customers before they start. It only makes sense if >>the game doesn't exist or is visibly no good from the rules. First, I am not charging for the rules by e-mail. I am charging $2.50 to set up your account (the other $7.50 is for your first turn). I'll send a copy of the rules by e-mail to ANYBODY who wants them. I just won't send the set-up packet until they decide whether they want to play or not. Fair enough? As far as the rest, the game does exist (of course), but to be fair, the Player's Guide and setup packet probably won't be ready until Monday or Tuesday of next week (Oct. 16th or 17th). They are in the final proof- reading stages and should be back by then. I did say that the official release date was Nov. 1st. I was just trying to take some of the initial stress off of my employees by getting some of the players in before we advertise off of the Internet.
