As someone who HAS done a fair bit of attacking, and has been attacked as
well, let me say that yes, attacking DOES favor the attacker.  Defensive
actions in Olympia consist mostly of pre-emptive strikes.

Because the world is a big place.  If there were fewer resources, or
actually something worth fighting over, factions would fight more.
If we really wantyed to, there is more than enough space for everyone (AOO
included) to have all the resources they could use, and then some.  The
only exception is nobles....

Because unless you are on the level of the AOO, you are more interested in
finding a place to settle and keeping your head down, maybe?
