Sure, but I doubt that Stilicho actually fought and defeated hundreds
of Vandal warriors in hand-to-hand combat, which (as I read it) is
Greg's point.  There's a vast difference between a military leader
whose tactical genius makes his *men* fight better, and a Conan-type
hero who just goes out and personally slays a few hundred foes in
every battle...

Most likely, although I agree with Greg on the matter (I like as much
realism in my fantasy game as possible beyond the well-defined fantastic
elements).  I'd rather see a system where, say, the role-playing types
might cast spells which empower the troops, or sneak off and destroy
the enemy supply lines, rather than turn into a tank and kill lots of
opponents.
