ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #152 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Tue, 17 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Errors to csd@microplex.com Now there should be a digest whenever (a) there are 10 emails or (b) whenever there is an email waiting for more than 48 hours for a digest to be completed. So don't get worried if the digest has only 1 or 2 emails, that just means the list has been slow. (I hope it works) If you want previous versions, they are available via WWW at http://www.microplex.com/~csd/atlantisv2/ ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Peter Futtrup <PF@nrg.dtu.dk> Subject: ATLANTIS COLLEGE Date: Mon, 16 Oct 95 02:44:00 W Hi Fellow Citizents of AC The New Atlantis College is now open, and seeking students. Thanx Bob! Actually, I volunteered because I know a bit about this kind of stuff as I've been playing since March/April Year 1 and have had a hand in everything. I don't mind co-ordinating effort, but I have not got "Time on my Hands" to devote 110% to it. (I have got an Honours Project to do, and Co-ordinate with mypals at Compsoc for different events, AND make sure I hit every party in town each week, AND play football every couple of days, AND ... well you get the idea.) I am a busy little puppie but as I know what I'm doing (half the time anyway) I'll gladly volunteer. I've actually got another suggestion : As we know, we can't give gadgets to the City Guard as they are non-player units, but how about this? Stockpile a few (maybe even a little more than a few) gadgets in AC as "Gifts"to any faction deciding to leave. We could devote a single turn to the development of a gadget or two, stockpile them, and when we get a spare month, bang out another. (It doesn't cost anything bar maintainance!) (I know of a few factions struggling to survive, let alone research and study each turn, so instead of the mage sitting around waiting to get enough capitaltogether, they could bang out a gadget for the same cost as twiddling their thumbs). What do you think? Gifts to each faction going out into the World? Mail me with suggestions Regards as ever Mack PS One point - I AM busy but I try to stay on top of my mail, so if you get a prompt reply, it is because I took 2mins out to answer, not that I'm waiting around for some. Efficient? Yes! Underworked? I don't think so!!! ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 16 Oct 1995 18:33:47 +1000 (EST) From: Robert Henley <rhenley@st.nepean.uws.edu.au> Subject: Re: AC Defensive Arrangement on of the main trouble i feel is mainly the small factions just starting would join and these have few troops in city compared to alliances like dominion which have 200 or so combat people in units in city. as trade faction myself i have no combat units at this time or funds to create them.i would be willing to donate time if given raw materials to create weapons and armor for alliance.however this is impossible acording to what i know as telportation into atlantis city is impossible and there is no iron for sale in the city.this otherwise would be the best way for trade factions in the alliance to defend atlantis city.answers welcome at following address H H EEEE NN N L EEEE Y Y ********************************* H H E N N N L E Y Y * Address all email to * HHHHH EEEE N N N L EEEE Y * * H H E N N N L E Y * David Henley at * H H EEEE N NN LLLLL EEEE Y * rhenley@st.nepean.uws.edu.au * ********************************* Razors pain you;Rivers are damp;Acids stain you;And drugs cause cramp;Guns aren't lawful;Nooses give;Gas smells awful;sod it you may as well live Everthing in life is someplace else and you get there in a car ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 16 Oct 95 10:01:02 +0100 From: eedrsl@aachen.eed.ericsson.se (Robert Schnell) Subject: AC Defensive Arrangement & DEFAULT ALLY Hi all, > > > Has anyone thought of GIVEing magic items to the guards? > > Or units? I checked this with Geoff, and he said that it is NOT possible to do so since the guards are NEUTRAL (although they will join the defense of any attacked faction). Declaring DEFAULT ALLY is the only way to defend AC. The Mutant Black Robes pointed out that you will autosupport allies, and by this all AC inhabitants if you have DEFAULT ALLY. I don't think this is a major problem though since undersupport of units should happen only in error cases (e.g. no turn submitted), and I'm sure that the faction which missed the support will be glad to refund the money to whoever donated it, and it won't affect YOUR own support nor your study/research plans, as they're executed before. I hope the Mutant Black Robes will see this as well and join in the AC Defensive Arrangement, since it seems to be a large faction with quite some defensive power. I'm for example a small faction (in number of units), but I *CAN* generate some defensive power, be sure of that. And note, if WE ALL don't defend AC, who will ? AC is the safe haven of the game and should stay that way unless you want the game to degenerate. If you declare default ally, you will assist any unit which is attacked, but no units are obliged to defend you! (I think.)
