ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #159 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Wed, 25 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Errors to csd@microplex.com Now there should be a digest whenever (a) there are 10 emails or (b) whenever there is an email waiting for more than 48 hours for a digest to be completed. So don't get worried if the digest has only 1 or 2 emails, that just means the list has been slow. (I hope it works) If you want previous versions, they are available via WWW at http://www.microplex.com/~csd/atlantisv2/ ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 24 Oct 1995 08:44:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Heinen <jeffh@ee.pdx.edu> Subject: Re: Some design/rule thoughts for A3 On Tue, 24 Oct 1995, Glenn Harvel wrote: > > > > > > > > 3. Then you have not only Gods, but Demi-Gods and Semi-Gods and Just plain people too. :_) For some reason this just seems to be more complexity and it dosnt help that much. How whould you become a God? Number of Hexes? Of units? Cash flow? A spell? Whould you loose everything when you move? What if someone already has your land in a higher plane? Then you are out of luck and at the mercy of those that have been there for a while. The best way I can see for long games is to make things cost to upkeep. The large fractions get too large, they are imposible to manage and keep fed. So you loose some units here and there because they get bored, or tired and just want to leave. Just for those who missed my last mail, I used to play a Multi-User Dungeon (or MUD) and became a God on it (Way to go Mack). The problem was, when you become a God, you just float around in spirit and don't do much else. You can't buy/sell stuff, use items, anything - pretty damned boring. I'm not saying that this idea would be the same, but it will be too hard to code it on two, three or four levels, and would lead to God-Bashin Syndrome. IEGods coming down to earth to smite his foes who wouldn't stand and earthly! (Come on - How many Gods do you know that have been whooped by mortals ? And don't quote ancient Greek mythology to me please!) Just not viable (and too damn boring!) I`d have dropped out long ago, if not because of the wars that keep bedevilling my alliance. :-) Can`t drop out in the middle of everything now, can we? Date: Tue, 24 Oct 1995 18:26:36 +0000 (GMT) Sorry to all on the players list for this. Chris, I'm having hassles with my mailbox again, so I don't know if you got my mail. If you got them, fine, if not, mail me please! Regards as ever Mack PS Sorry to the players for any inconvenience! ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Dave "Mack" McGaw <u3djm@csc.liv.ac.uk> Subject: Mack's Home Page Date: Tue, 24 Oct 1995 19:48:17 +0000 (GMT) OK folks, all interested in the home pages RAISE YOUR HANDS! I know this thing is eagerly awaited (it's not that good, honest, turn back now, don't flood the system, honestly - it's not that good!!!) (OK maybe it is). so I can only apologise for the delay. The thing is, the techies up here in Liverpool have decided to allow ANYONE the opportunity to run a set of web pages from their own accounts, as opposed tothe central server. This means tonnes of work involved to, in the words of Jean-Luc Picard, "make it so"! This means that as soon as a page is done, it should be live. I think the URL is : http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/users/u3djm/home/index2.html but check it and see if the local access is up yet! (I don't know if it is!) If there is any change, I'll mail the list again!!
