SDW: SUICIDE ATTACK in HOLLIMAN From: "Thomas A. Leitgeb" <thomas.leitgeb@kfunigraz.ac.at> Date: Mon, 23 Oct 1995 00:00:00 +0000 UC SHIP DESTROYED "Suicide" Attack in Holliman FI/C Delta Alpha (Holliman System) - The UC Gorangra made a grave error last month when it entered Holliman System and fired its weapons at the city of FI/C San Tecate. First Imperium defense bases on Meridian ripped the ship apart with beam fire and a wave of nuclear missiles in only two combat rounds. It was day 8 of 07-160 when the UC Gorangra began her attack. The beams of the UC ship struck the heavy riders launched from FI/E Zeta Terminal, but did only minor damage to some of them. The Gorangra's missiles failed to get a lock on their target. Return fire from FI/E Zeta Terminal and FI/E Delta Foundation ravaged the amidships section of the Gorangra, but thousands of FI nuclear missiles that penetrated the Gorangra's defensive fire failed to detonate thanks to the UC ship's nuclear dampers. FI/C San Tecate did not return fire and the FI Adventuress scrambled to get out of dock at Delta Alpha and join the defense. In the second round of the battle, the Gorangra did not have enough crew remaining to continue the attack. The FI forces smashed the UC ship's fore section and with no nuclear dampers remaining on board, the FI nukes detonated, ionizing the ship. All FI riders returned to their bases and the FI Adventuress was able to stand down. STORM OPPORTUNITIES NEWS McNeil Investigation Continues Investigation of the death of Storm McNeil continues. HISTORICAL ARCHIVE DELAYED Records Available By Mail NX/C Alexandria (Glade System) [Independent Reporter] - On day 04 of this month, Chairman Swayviil of the Avalon Society made a statement to the press about the progress of the Society's public internet archive. "The B'norg government has generously loaned us a portion of its dataweb in which to maintain the archive," Swayviil said. "We are, however, experiencing some difficulties in meshing with the B'norg artificial intelligences. We are not certain how long it will take for us to solve these technical problems. As an interim measure, we are willing to send facsimiles of our existing 2nd Dominium documents to anyone who has a use for the information. "With the aid of various sources, especially the esteemed Captain Cousins of the SP Encounter, the Society has accumulated a significant store of records from the end of the 2nd Dominium. This is, however, only a fraction of the information which remains in private hands. If you possess historical data which we do not, please consider sharing that data with the Society. The sharing of such information can do no harm, and could conceivably benefit all those who live in Known Space." The Avalon Society announced the development of its Public Archive in 10-159. The archive is intended to serve as a repository for information such as historical records, making this information available, free of charge, to the general public. The archive was expected to open to the public during the first half of 160.
