Thanks to Bruce Cota for his help. ___ / _ \ I heard from Chris Dickson over the summer holidays about | __/DITORIAL the goings on in the digest. Some of these I haven't heard \___| about since, but I'd like to know more of. One is the possibility of an email Quest game from Peter's Australian crew, and the other was that partially hand moderated game in Finland. Would someone be kind enough to send in an update on those? _ / \ Today: More on group purchases, this time with respect to / /_\ RTICLES alliances. Stuff on new spells, both implemented and ideas. / ___ \ Advice shops, the 'W' order, and that's more or less it. /_/ \_\ Read on! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Ewan Jones" <c2ej@dmu.ac.uk> Date: Fri, 20 Oct 1995 12:42:06 BST EJ Just on the issue of discounts for group purchases of skill, did you know that you can still get discounts on purchases made at alliance hq`s for a skill, this means that despite only paying 3,000 for a B99 (that`s at 200gp/char) you sometimes stil get 10% discount! EJ KJC DO have two addresses stored for each group which is more or less the same as the student termtime idea, if you ring kjc they will tell you this as I found out a while ago when I thought a turn was going to my termtime address instead of a home one! EJ I now have a new www page since the old one is no longer valid, the address for these questing pages of enlightment is :- ********************************** * http://www.cms.dmu.ac.uk/~c2ej * ********************************** -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 20 Oct 1995 13:31:45 +0100 (BST) From: Allan Hooper <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> > From: editor@elbon.demon.co.uk (Paul Noble) > PN> Resurrect and stone to flesh huh? I wonder how much they'll > cost, do you think that since they are actually implementing > these within a couple of months that petrified PCs will become > items? AH> Are implementing these as spells that require items (mages prisms etc) or just as (90+ sk?) mage spells? Perhaps they could require a mix of things like 80+ sk mage, 80+ sk priest and expensive magic item or even spells that require multiple groups. It shouldnt be easy anyway - or the characters come back knackered. > From: "C.H.E.B." <ctc@coventry.ac.uk> > CTC> No - it's been like that for ages and I hope it stays that way; > weapon skill is expensive! I have never done a B99 without getting a > discount. AH> Talking of B 99 of weapons skill could it be made a bit more intelligent? For example - all but my mages have ACE weapon skills now if I do a B 99 wouldnt it be nice if only those who need training bought it? Otherwise it will take me several orders to buy weapon skill individually for the mages or waste untold money with ACE characters training going nowhere. > CTC> One of my G7 groups just went 22 rounds with 8 Monks of Ythcal. AH> Looks like something to do with your 100+ turn old groups, go on a Monk hunt! Its strange that magical weapons did not harm them, looks like death spells are the way to go then. > JPG> you meet with Monks of Ythcal, you teleport III them away. :) AH> Or have an alignment to Ythcal ]:>. Which gives me an idea - why cant a 80 odd skill Ythcal priest suck the life from (death spell) someone? Turning Ythcals Touch into a deathspell would be too powerfull (unless the priest has to be of a high enough skill before it becomes a deathspell). Perhaps an idea for higher point miracles. As far as I know the more priests you have the harder it is to raise their skill, am I correct or am I driveling? > From: Neil Benson <N.A.BENSON@sms.ed.ac.uk> > NB> Have you noticed how more and more players are asking for SAEs > before they'll send you a reply? If these people can't afford to > write to you, why should you pay twice so that you can receive a > reply? It just doesn't figure. AH> I recieved an SAE the other day from someone wanting a copy of my dungeon list. I didnt half feel guilty. Why would I advertise the dungeon list if I didnt want people supplying info? BTW - Did people know that dungeons now have names? Yes its true unless, the Dungeon of Misery and the Tomb of Sundonak have always exitsed. AH> One final thing before I put everyone to sleep - does anyone have any info on Advice shops and the like? Are they likely to start doing anything interesting in the near future or are they dead ends? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 23 Oct 1995 12:17:30 BST From: MACV <cfm125@ujvax.ulst.ac.uk> The W order in the wilderness does not seem to be as felxible as it could be. The format of the order is W <Target>. You have to specify a particular target and hope for the best. Howver is there not a way to wait and ambush the first viable target that comes along e.g sit beside a road or track and when some group/npc/monster wanders along your group pounces on them. Is there already a way to do this. I am new to the Quest arena (a mere 12 turns) so any help on this matter is appreciated. Slan, Stiofain. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Time to go... I'm going away for a few days, back on Wednesday. I don't have time to update the list of Questers yet, but thank you to everyone who has sent in corrections or additions. I'll do it soon.
