PBEM: Champions/Old West From: rodent@wam.umd.edu (James Ronald Simonds) Date: Sat, 16 Dec 1995 00:00:00 +0000 You've heard rumors, all right. Just like a lot of people. How a Confederate Soldier, just one man, turned the tide at Gettysburg. How a sherriff named James runs the quietest town this side of the Mississip-*too* quiet. How Mr. Lincoln survived a shot right to the head. Course, you didn't believe none of that Eastern greenhorn talk til you dug your way out of your grave up on Boot Hill... *** In most super-hero worlds, the 'heroic age' starts sometime during WWII, when the biggest conflict the world ever knew awakens powers in dozens or hundreds of people- and coincidentally, just about when Marvelous Big Comics (or MBC) began putting out popular comic books on a regular basis... Fortunately, I'm not a big comics company. And this isn't most worlds! If all of this rambling interests you, please send a character written under the CHAMPIONS/Hero system to rodent@wam.umd.edu. At the moment there's no point or disad guidelines, and not everyone will be adventuring together, so roughly equal heros isn't all that important. Just keep in mind: you have *one* singular ability- that's it. If you need more than one Champs power to simulate it, that's fine, but it should all be one obvious, easily-summarized ability. Powers are still extraordinarily rare, and most people who want to live something approaching a normal life... are back East, but still, walking dead are a bit much even for jaded frontiersmen- most people will conceal their powers. Finally, while you have unique abilities, keep in mind when doing your write up you're more like one of the Golden or Silver Age 'Mystery Men' than today's universe (or even earth, or state, or...) shattering supers; large numbers of ordinary peple, or even one who's good, lucky, smart, or just plain has a big enough gun can easily put an end to any 'dangblamed super- shenanigans!'
