Background and Other Information STAR will provide information and support for holding tournaments, even outside of current regions, for a small ($20) overhead fee. This support will include standard rules (based largely on TBA rules), tournament format info, and publication of results to include national rankings in a newsletter and on this web site. A subscription to the STAR newsletter can be obtained for a small fee (around $10 before 2/96), contact Hank Smith for more details. The newsletter will include an Average Pick Sheet (APS) once the season is underway, as well other draft and play related tips and news. Player eligibility rules for STAR tournaments are as follows: Position players - 250 or more plate appearences Starting Pitchers - 125 or more innings and the word "Starter" on their card Relief Pitchers - 35 or more innings and the word "Relief" on their card Thus, a pure starter with less than 125 innings in ineligible, and a starter/relief or relief/starter with between 35 and 125 innings can only relieve. Tournament format is as follows: Start at 0800 Saturday morning - random formation of equal divisions of size 8-14, followed by a 26 round serpentine draft, 1 minute per pick. Play starts NLT 1200 and will be round-robin, 2 games per series format. Best 4 records in each division advance to Sunday for 12 additional games. Division winner is determined by best combined record over both days. Division winners then play best of n for the crown ! (n=3,5, or 7 depending on time available and # of divisions/playoff rounds needed). STAR is seeking the support of SOM Inc., but does not have any official sanction as yet. STAR will be advertised/reported in STRAT FAN magazine (thanks to Glen Guzzo for his support !) Watch this page for updated tournament schedules and more info !
