January 96 Galactic Inquirer From: dvistas@aol.com (D Vistas) Date: Mon, 01 Jan 1996 00:00:00 +0000 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< T H E G A L A C T I C I N Q U I R E R >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Volume 4 January 96 ========================================================================== === INTERSTELLAR NEWS BRIEFS Earth, Sol: Several new Imperial Works projects have filtered billions of new QPs into Earth's economy, creating millions of new jobs in the process. The economic boom is being funded by huge increases in spending, using new taxes that have been collected by recent low-level tax hikes. Much of the new moneys are being spent in the agricultural and technological sectors, with some going to industry. The planet's mining economy did not receive any imperial funding, as it has remained healthy and continues to grow due to increased exploration and new mining techniques. Earth, Sol: Megafalagon University unveiled it's new economic computer complex to the press and numerous megacorporate dignitaries. The new rate of Galactic Inquirer economic reports will be changed from monthly to bimonthly, helping to stabilize interstellar trade routes and solidify galactic economics for the long term. Most traders interviewed seemed very pleased at the news. "Much betterer than previous!" exclaimed one happy Brogian merchant, who said that he would be better able to plan trade routes on a bimonthly basis and looks forward to increased profits. The Galactic Inquirer will remain a monthly publication, but will be reduced to one page. Oganza's Sports Beat and Ask K'YarYup will no longer be with us. We wish them all the best in their new endeavors. Earth, Sol: The Imperial Bureau Of Law, Justice And Security announced a new Bounty Hunter's Discount for all future pirate kills. "Each time you destroy a pirate ship, the kill is recorded, and every kill is worth 20% off your next repair order, up to 80%." said Grand Duke Eben Zoltan, the Chancellor of the bureau. The new policy is an attempt to encourage bounty hunting by individuals, as most pirates avoid imperial naval ships. Any discount is automatically used with your next MS order. Tendar, Hamal: Biomed Consortium, along with representatives of the other six megacorporations, announced that all traders aligned with a megacorporation will get a 20% discount on cargo bought from the same production sector as a member company when ever they are on that company's planet. Bigelow's Guide tells which company is operating on a planet by showing the stock's value, such as NLG @ 125 QPs for Hamal. For example, if you're aligned with BIO, and are at Hamal, where New Life Genetics is located, you'd get 20% off on all TEC cargoes. Use The Galactic Inquirer to determine which sector a company operates in. Rhomanus, Thuban: The large robotics insurance firm of Dewey, Cheetham & Howe will now be offering independent insurance policies for traders and merchants plying the space lanes. To purchase insurance, use item #38 (previously the Decoy) for 10,000 QPs. Premiums are (1,000 QPs x Ship Level) per turn, payable as taxes. If your ship is destroyed and you lose your policy, you're likely to be out of luck. Coverage is the same as the 70% megacorporate rate for the current value of your ship. Public Notice: The QT order has been modified to allow for the Imperial Bank to begin a new personal savings service. The Interstellar ATM System can be used on any planet or outpost to transfer personal funds from one trader to another or to your personal bank account. Money in the bank is protected from theft, but not taxes or legal penalties. Enter the Ship# of the receiving party and the number of QPs that you are sending. The transfer happens immediately, and there is no charge for using the banking system. Use your own ship number to move money in and out of your personal bank account, using a positive number to deposit and a negative number to withdraw. You must be docked in order to use the new ATM machines. ========================================================================== === THE STANDINGS LISTS The following traders have earned a place of exceptional honor and respect by succesfully competing as first-class smugglers.
