The game for furry folk. _________________________________________________________________ It is the year 6 million BC, contrary to popular scientific opinion, the hamsters ruled the earth, just before the humans evolved and took over. The hamsters did not have the dexterity to create the tools the humans will soon find useful, but they had magic and they had their gods. The mages and the priests were all powerful. All was well in the hamster wilderness, until one group of hamsters dispreased the god "Kuljinder". He spoke unto the hamsters... "You have defiled my sacred shrine! For this, I shall reap my ultimate punishment. You are to live in the future. I shall put you all in pet shops and be sold to little children who want to put you into liquidisers! Ha ha ha ha ha!" Many of the group were confused as to when exactly they had defiled any sacred temple, but before any of them could appeal, the sands beneath them swirled up around them and after a while, they found themselves in cages. Locked up like prisioners. Two things were common in their minds, (apart from confusion), Escape and Revenge! _________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the Hamster Lives game, a quasi-PBeM game where the players take the role of hamsters in a fantasy world. As a hamster character, you have control over your own personality and actions. You have the ability to talk (to other hamsters) and are intelligent. The hamsters live in a fantasy environment, and have access to gods and magic. Unfortunately, the humans live in their modern, 1996, world with all the technology to their disposal. How does the game work? Unlike the older game Hamster World I used to run, this game is unmoderated and de-centralised. To start off, you may introduce yourself in whatever you see fit. Others will jump in and join you. It is up to you what happens. What should I put in my messages? Your story should be told in the third person. You may quote other players messages and refer to them, but please keep this to a minimum. If you have any administrative questions, please begin the message [ADMIN]. What do I need to decide before starting? If you want, you may read a few messages from other players before starting, but before you do anything: 1. Pick a name for yourself. Check the player directory to see if anyone already has selected your name; 2. Write a little descrition of your physical appearance and personality for me to put in the directory; 3. Send all this off to me and start playing. Do I have to be a hamster? I always rather fancied being a cat! Do you can be any species you desire, but if you are not to be a hamster, you must live in the modern world, and so not have access to the hamster gods and spells. Humans are often required to step in when the story needs one. I will often do this if no one else does. You are not restricted to playing one character only. I, for instance, play Fluffy, a hamster, and the shop keeper of the pet shop. Great! How do I join? Mail me at <godfrey2@coventry.ac.uk> and ask me to be added to the mailing list. Cry for help. If anyone has access to a good (fast) mailing list server and software and would like to carry this game, please mail me. I currently run the game off my spare address from a set of X-Windows terminals. _________________________________________________________________ -- Bill the Hamster says, "Enjoy yourself!"
