PBEM RPG Design Tips? From: pbem@aol.com (PBEM) Date: Sun, 21 Jan 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Gentle Gamers, I am seeking some input on running a campaign by email. I have tried to do so several times in the last couple of years, and each effort has had its good points. But eventually each ended for one reason or another. There are several factors in running PBEM RPG's that I have found to be potential sources of major problems. *) number of players, *) file management, *) length and flexibility of turn scheduel, *) player vs. GM input on character creation, *) play interuptions, (semester break, illness, etc...) *) volume and format of turn data, *) scope of game world, *) player expectations, I am taking a break from trying to run a game at the moment, and I am spending my time studying the methods, problems and options involved in a good RPG PBEM. I am playing in a few, and trying to design one that I will be able to sustain in spite of the forseen obstacles. Anyone have any comments or feed back? Have you run an email rpg? What problems have you encountered? What methods haver you tried? What genres worked best? Have you played in a good email rpg? What did you like about it? What is most frustrating about playing in an email rpg? Etc... Mark PBEM@aol.com Referenced By Up
