Ancient Times #0196b From: keith.langley@mdcs.com (Keith Langley) Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Epistles from Erth One True Faith game #2 CORRECTION - Last issue erroneously reported the demise of Crispin. Chicane, the Trickster God, died. Crispin, god of machinery, is alive and well in another world (game 3). Magian storms two agnostic provinces - Magian's plaguebringers assaulted Tripoli (from Sfax) and Hesse (from Brunswick and Thuringia). Both forces were overwhelming; the provinces were taken without military resistance. A small group of Munchkin hobgoblins reportedly escaped somehow from Hesse before the "purifications" began there. Termites destroy buildings in Austria and Croatia - An infestation of termites destroyed Storch's taverns and collapsed homes. Casualties totalled 11, mostly Boozers. Termites are a favorite symbol of Gramunch, as they demonstrate how the small and insignificant can demolish even the mightiest structures. Holy Writ One True Faith game #3 Deadline extended - I've added a few days to the deadline, so that players attending Genghis Con in Denver can deliver their turns in person. Epidemics devastate western half of Erth - Four separate epidemics overlapped, causing massive losses. CRISPIN caused a plague of inventiveness centered in Sfax. From Oran to Venice to Macedonia, people felt compelled to build and test horseless carriages, flying machines, submersible boats, dangerous chemicals, and household labor saving devices. Fires, drownings, collisions, falls and other accidents took many lives. MERCANNA'S traders brought Norwegian Flu to France, French Pox to Germany, and German Measles to Britain. Each area received a disease to which its people had no immunity. She created two epidemics, centered in Champagne and Belgium. Effects were felt from Horthaland to Aragon, and from Wales to Brandenburg and Venice. ROEBUCK, disappointed with the results of His small blindness epidemic last turn, struck again with real force. Again His target was Estremadura. People suddenly, and permanently, lost their sight, from Burgundy and Annaba to the Atlantic coast. Blindness was particularly destructive where it affected deranged inventors and test pilots in West Africa. Total losses from the four epidemics were around 1,500 dead - around 500 of Drehme's worshippers, 350 of Dudley's, 300 of Mercanna's, 150 of Vulcan's, 150 agnostics, and 50 of Kashelo's. Many military units, and some heroes, were also slain. Storm strikes Baltic sea - Sea F was hit by a sudden violent storm. Fortunately there was no shipping there at the time. Mercants persecuted - Drehme launched an anti-Mercant campaign in Holstein, in an attempt to prevent the spread of disease. Shops were closed and streets cleared while a search was conducted for anyone with ties to Mercanna's church. Crispin also rounded up Mercant sympathizers, capturing spies in Crete, Gautland and Phoenicia. Drehme captures Baden - One of the few remaining agnostic provinces surrendered to an army of Dreamers as they marched in from Eifel. (For extra credit: there are 17 provinces still controlled by Agnostics. How many can You name?) Flush Rimbaugh takes Kosovo; Vulcan withdraws - Two armies moved into Kosovo from opposite sides - Vulcanians from Albania and Montenegro, and Dittoheads from Serbia. Vulcan's forces were instructed to fight only against agnostics, so they withdrew, leaving Flush Rimbaugh's forces to accept Kosovo's surrender. Kashelo-Crispin war continues in Sweden - Kashelo attacked Skane by sea, bringing overwhelming force to bear. Crispin's defenders fled in a cargo ship, but were captured by Drehme's patrol in Sea G. It is unknown whether Kashelo and Drehme are deliberately cooperating. Kashelo also sent an army into Gautland - that army's strong cavalry was ineffective against Crispin's new fort there. Casualties on both sides were fairly heavy, but Crispin was victorious. Seers sack Moscow - Roebuck's army from Voronezh, composed largely of rocketeers, so impressed the agnostics of Moscow with their pyrotechnics that the province surrendered. Roebuck falls short in White Russia - Taverna's determined defenders, fortified by strong drink, repulsed a strong army of Seers, including over two dozen flamethrowers. It is rumored that blood alcohol content increased the defenders' flammability, and it is known that Roebuck's army succeeded in taking the gate and entering the fort. however, in house to house fighting, Taverna's lizard riders drove them back out. Vulcan captures Qattara from Crispin - Continuing their march across Africa, Vulcan's army attacked Qattara with strong priest support. Crispin's artillery, the backbone of His army, broke down and could not be used, and a horde of summoned troops augmented the attackers. Up
