Call the group a "Squad" Make it very similar to a unit: You create it with the "Form" command. You can ADD units. You can give a Squad orders and the parser applies that order to each unit, unless a specific unit has other orders. Example: Form Squad 1 Add Unit xxx Add Unit yyy Add Unit zzz Name Squad "The Purple Butterflies" Move Squad N End Later: Squad ??? Attack unit qqq End Later Still - you want to scout and see what is north of you with Unit zzz (stealth 5) but don't want the others to come unless it is safe: Squad ??? Work End Unit zzz Move N End I think that this would be easily implemented, and a nice feature. Also, I think that for Atlantis 3.0 a faction should not be deleted from inactivity until the balance is 0.00, or maybe one week later. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Sent from Northfield Mount Hermon School via ExpressNet/First Class firstname_lastname@nmh.northfield.ma.us -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Adrian Smith <fon@iinet.net.au> Subject: Re: squads or groups Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 11:45:32 +0800 (WST) > > I would like to see some kind of grouping for units that would allow one > command to be dispersed to several units. > > Call the group a "Squad" > > Make it very similar to a unit: > > You create it with the "Form" command. > You can ADD units. > You can give a Squad orders and the parser applies that order to each unit, > unless a specific unit has other orders. Good idea! It would then have a similar feel to the "fleets" of Galaxy and other space games. I often have to write identical orders for all units of differing combat skill in a hex. Perhaps it could be most easily implemented as some kind of structure, like a boat, that provides no advantages except for grouping units together. I would hope that units from different factions could join together in a squad, so they will move together? However, "Squadding" units from different factions could prove hazardous, so I think thisshould be avoided. Implementing as a structure is a good idea though! Right, units with building skill could PRODUCE TENT without needing raw materials. Units could enter and leave using the same method as for other structures. It would help somewhat with organizing teaching so I think units from other friendly-or-better factions should be allowed to enter. The owner of the tent could control movement and the MOVE or ADVANCE order would override the month long orders of the tent occupants. Those without enough movement points would be left behind. Does anyone want a "magic tent" made from floater hide? John Ward - Severe Trade (164) Up
