[PBEM News] Birth of a Legend From: sharlene79@mindspring-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (sharlene79) Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2007 01:18:12 +0000 Birth of a Legend is restarting. This is a game about superhumans at an early college age. Not every character has to be attending college, but their lives should end up connected in some way to the University and of the same level of maturity. In other words, this game is neither for teens, nor ancient gods. Yes, Ill consider characters that age a bit differently, but their maturity levels should conform. And their age should be recent, not span centuries. Characters should be of the four-color comic book code variety. Law and politics will be realistic. Characters MUST be group oriented. This is not a vigilante game. You will need to be in a group to survive many of the adventures. Sorry, but the villains are not fools well most arent. All PCs should be super-powered. No characters that rely solely on powered armor or gadgets. Having gadgets to augment powers is fine. And if you are going to be an alien, please learn English first. You need to be able to interact and mingle among humans. IE, you must APPEAR human. In a PbeM youll need to fit in. Most of my NPCs are very well-developed characters with years of development. Interaction with them can become quickly complex. Also, please no undead or lycanthropes. A living vampire? Sure, but have a good story and adhere to the other group requirements. Shape changer? Same considerations. Concept and background are extremely important. So is the ability to write and role-play. You should be able to post daily or at least every other day. And posts should be better than a short paragraph. These will be GM guided adventures as well as interplayer collaborative fiction. Yes, there will be non-combat time. Indeed, I prefer most of the time be non-combat, investigations, etc. Combats should be planned out and brief if possible. Yahoo Messenger will be used for many joint postings which will help for those who have trouble with longer posts. (But try to make it clear who is speaking and acting in those for ease of reading. Maybe even add short narrative at the beginning to explain the scene.) While combat is intended to be limited, characters must be designed to be survivable against modest levels of attack, while able to deliver a punch. Remember that you ought to be thinking about capturing villains, not killing them. Characters must be original material not rip-offs from comic books. Please avoid detailed backgrounds that would require rewriting history as we know it. I have a modestly complex history. (No, you wont have to read some history book. The main points of history are much as one would expect, but with metahuman events having influenced turning points. Nazi Germany, for example, is well covered.) There will be several supervillain groups drawn from old Champions settings. However, dont be surprised to find that some of the heroes from those setting are villains in this game. Most of my villains are of a Terran nature. A few groups are not. But the characters are well-defined personalities. I am not interested in a running a lot of wars. This is not the Avengers. You will be facing criminals, terrorists, madmen bent on world domination, and utter lunatics who belong in an asylum. Some of the criminals will be superhumans like you who want no more than to flex their powers against equals. The title of the game is BIRTH of a Legend. Players should be generating new characters. Modest power is fine. (Survivable is more important.) Training is fine. Wealth is fine. Career goals are great. Even having a family to protect is fine. But you will be introducing them to the world for the first time. I do make some exceptions, but require strong cause to do so. The characters should be designable on a 250 Base point / 100 point Disad Champions 5th edition format. -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.pbemnews.org Up
