Odyssey Battle Simulator v1.0 From: Daniel Greenwood <danag+@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: Tue, 13 Feb 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Hi! My Odyssey battle simulator is complete! Just like the real thing! An initial beta version for Mac is available from my web pages at: http://www.ini.cmu.edu/~danag/odyssey.html Follow the link to the simulator. You will have to get all the files there in order to run the simulation. Open each document and then save it onto your machine. The application is saved in binhex format, so you will need to convert it back to an executable before running it. Documentation is available in readme.txt. Even if you don't have a Mac, you can still take a look at it. Please let me know if there are any problems accessing the web pages! I'm porting the code to Intel machines this week. Expect release next weekend (hopefully). Initial release includes: + Missile rounds and hand-to-hand rounds + Accurate line advance speed + Starting distance based on terrain + Cavalry initial deployment to flanks + Skirmisher redeployment + All to hit and damage multipliers + Slot by slot targeting + Accurate damage carryover + Data file including all base troop types + Documentation on how to create your own army data files If you like the free release, $15 will get you the final version with: + Morale checks + Character bonuses + Location defense bonuses + Cavalry and reserve redeployment + Withering fire + Data file including all non-basic troop types (that I know of) The final version is nearly complete, and I will announce its release when it is finished. I plan to convert the beta to PCs before finishing the final version. If there is enough interest, I can come out with a version which will apply bell curves to the number of hits each unit gets in combat. Let me know what you think! I welcome any feedback, criticism, comments, suggestions, praise, etc. Best, -Dan Up
