Lords of the Earth From: eddief6@ix.netcom.com (Eddie Efsic III) Date: Sat, 23 Mar 1996 00:00:00 +0000 I just signed on the net, and in the last hundred or so PBM messages, I've heard no mention of LOTE. It's a global politico/socio/religious/economic conquest game Has anyone here played this game(besides me)? I recently quit the campaign I was in for the last 7 yrs because each of the last 5 turns took about 6 months. So, I'm strongly considering running a campaign via email. I figure I can run the turns once a week. What IS Lords of the Earth? Its a global social, political, economic, religious, military conquest, you are the king(queen/emperor/empress/mahatma/el prezidente/BOSS) of your piece of the globe game. If you want your piece to be bigger, then eventually other people's pieces have to get smaller. Tom Harlan created the game in Tucson AZ about 10 yrs ago and holds the copyright, I believe. The game starts in AD 1000, with each turn counting for 5 yrs of history, which the players determine by their actions (wars, treaties, explorations, etc...). Actual historical events can take place if conditions are ripe (low tech levels, and high urban populations may lead to a bubonic plague). All in all , loads of fun, made more fun by interactions, agreements, and such between players (which can now be WAY cheaper than by AT&T). Reply if you're inerested, and I'll start a list of potential players. About 20 are needed to start a campaign, and 45 is about the most the system can handle.
