Quest Digest 22/3/96 From: ">>-Josh->" <J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk> Date: Fri, 22 Mar 1996 00:00:00 +0000 ___ _ / _ \ | | | |_| |UEST__| |IGEST \__ | / _ | | |_ | |_| | An e-mail discussion forum for the fantasy |_ / \___/ play by mail game; "Quest". Compiled by Josh Gallagher. J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk o This isn't one of those automatic list thingies, so could all articles be sent clearly marked with paragraphs initalled to me. o If you want off the list, just say! No hassle, no pressure. o All material here is the exclusive property of the author and may not be used elsewhere without their permission. ___ / _ \ I'd forgotten the joys of long distance telnetting. *sigh* | __/DITORIAL Sorry for the delay in the production of this Digest, the \___| excuse is that I'm dealing with a communication medium that seems to have only recently moved from waving flags between telegraph towers and embarked upon this 'internet' thing. JPG> It has been brought to my attention that the help line (which I must regretfully admit to never having used) is bouncing emails. Bill Godrfrey, if you are still reading, what is happening with the help line? Is it still in operation? Has it not been in operation for a while? Let me know, please. JPG> Meanwhile, on with the articles! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: j_klein@e-mail.com Date: Mon, 11 Mar 1996 02:10:21 EST To:All About: Quest-3 German - see call for help in Digest 4.3.96 by Skeltem I'm known as "giant Hydra" or as "Grandmaster of Dreams" of the "holy brotherhood", germanys first official alliance. Other aliases are "Knight of Harzstor", "Winner of the Battle at Koenigssted" or the "True Hero" Our enemies are inofficials alliances like "raven" or "chaos" which declared war to us - before they were ready to fight To get an idea about their incompetece select http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/c_kny (sorry in german) and laugh. They are unable to cordinate actions or to develop their groups. They are making enemies while calling neutrals - just by saying stupid things. In germany we are the only ones with an internet homepage (how many alli- ances does in the uk ???), because of our success other powerplayers are willing to join or at least to cope with us. We have more than 45 active parties in the alliance and MAYBE to strong for the others. BUT .... ... is it our fault that their parties are so poor ??? ... is it our fault that we could kill them in their own towns ??? ... is it our fault that we could kick their asses whenever we want to ??? WE are learning from them whenever we could (Wenn ich den Andreas Meyer noch einmal treffe habe ich ein paar wunderschoene Ueberraschungen fuer ihn ...), increasing our knowledge step by step, .. to learn .. to grow .. why don't they ???? (JPG> I can't be held responsible for proliferating stuff I don't understand, can I?? I swear my German teacher never liked me...) In this game there is NO NEED for an evil alliance as long as so many parties are willing to attack us - WE are JUST DEFENDING OUR HOMES ... our wifes ... our children ... I'm "giant Hydra", the "Grandmaster of Dreams", "Knight of Harzstor", "Winner of the Battle at Koenigssted", "the true Hero", ..... my our dreams become true ..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Stefan Andersson <t94stean@und.ida.liu.se> Date: Fri, 15 Mar 1996 14:08:31 +0100 SA> I just wanted to tell everybody that I have made some updates on my homepage so all of you Internet-surfers, get your urls tuned into: http://www-und.ida.liu.se/~t94stean/ The newest Quest features being the whole issue 38 of the game 6 newsletter and the history of game 6. See 'ya all! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 Mar 1996 13:17:59 +0000 (GMT) From: Allan Hooper <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> > From: editor@elbon.demon.co.uk (Paul Noble) > PN> Called a flee factor ain't it? AH> Yeah, sorry I missed that bit out - a break point should be a % killed with a minimum of 3 or something. > CC> So if I can earn at least 15000 gps per 1/2 turns on T Quests why > can I only borrow 1000 gps. AH> Perhaps you should have saved some cash instead of buying those +3axes? :) > From: Dave Rees <chaos@thanes.demon.co.uk> > DR > Would you not die for the cause? "I hold a banner drenched in blood, I urge you to be brave I lead you to your destiny! I lead you to your grave!" SV> Fight for a cause? Yes. Die for it? Not if we can help it. AH> Although as cowardly as Skulking Vermin are they wont go N/A when things go badly for them, unlike a certain alliance head group "Newpowergeneration" in G3. Yup, hostile since the dawn of time but as soon as they lose a few characters they go N/A. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Skeltem@aol.com Date: Thu, 21 Mar 1996 09:51:23 -0500 Do you have Names of some of the Powerplayers? The mentioning of the alliance 'Brotherhood' reminds me strongly of our own archenemy, the 'Bruderschaft'. (JPG> This, although a question directed at me, was really for the digest. :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 21 March 1996 From: Chris Mead <mead@rmplc.co.uk> The Restitutors Alliance from KJC's Quest Game 9 would like to announce the existence of their World Wide Web page at: http://www.rmplc.co.uk/eduweb/sites/mead/restitut.html The page contains information about the alliance, Quest and KJC. All mail should be addressed to mead@rmplc.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Thank you to those that have contributed for this issue. There's not a lot, I know, but that is the price of holidays I guess! As for frequency of the Digest, it should become a little better than this poor performance when I get some decent university access at Aston on Monday, in case you wanted to know. JPG> Something I wanted to add myself, after praising the email turns last Digest, is that I have had a couple of orders mis-input from emailed turns, which seems ridiculous as it cannot be a problem with handwriting! Get a move on with automating the email turn reading facility KJC! It really should not prove too much of a daunting programming task. (Now where have I heard that one before? ;) Happy Questing folks. >>-Josh-> "You can't always get what you want" - Rolling Stones Up
