VGA-Planets=terrific and free! From: cg@primenet.com (cg) Date: Sat, 06 Apr 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Yes..VGA-Planets the Multi-Player Strategic Space War game, at last count, has over 100,000 players worldwide. Of course this game is the most fully supported PBEM game ever and its been playing on the internet for over 6 years..thats SIX YEARS. :) Its been in constant improvement by the author and the many support utility programers. VGA-Planets has everything a Space War gamer could want. Its such a popular game, that is has its own Usenet group(s) the big one is at: alt.games.vga-planets This is a VERY busy site..so be prepared for lots of mail, most of which deal with tips/hints and strategies...and of course listings of new email games looking for players. The new Windows version is now out,its called WinPlan 3.5. The DOS version is still Shareware so be sure and pickup this version at one of the FTP sites,if your just starting. You'll need to register the game in order to get above Tech 6 levels tho..its the best $20 you'll ever spend on a game that has no end of enjoyment...after all, your waring against HUMAN opponents..it doesnt get any better. These are just some of the sites from which you can obtain VGA Planets stuff. If you want to be considerate then use the site closest to you and avoid normal working hours. Remember that a site can appear to be "down" if it is overloaded; if so, try again later. **** ANONYMOUS FTP SITES: ftp.catt.ncsu.edu (152.1.43.33) /pub/msdos/games/vga-planets www.cahs.colostate.edu (129.82.159.34) /pub/archive/planets ftp.fu-berlin.de (160.45.10.6) /pub/pc/msdos/games/vgaplanets bucket.ualr.edu (144.167.10.237) /pub/vgap ftp.erg.sri.com (128.18.110.65) /pub/pbm/vga_planets faui43.informatik.uni-erlangen.de (131.188.2.43) /mounts/gonzo/pds/freeware/software/dos/games/planets berlin.snafu.de /pub/vgapl ftp.onwe.co.za (196.7.192.3) /pub/VGAPlanets - This has the latest informer & afsim from Sean Martens **** WORLD WIDE WEB PAGES: http://www.cahs.colostate.edu/planets.html http://www.tfh-berlin.de/usr1/odd/s590165/public_html/games/vgaplanets.html http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/~gorik/Vgaplanets/ http://primenet.com/~cam/ http://www_tios.cs.utwente.nl/~bos/hotlist.html http://brahms.informatik.uni-osnabrueck.de/stud/gcwilhel/english/PlanetsHome.html http://www.cs.tu-berlin.de/~neffets/vgapl.html (RANDMAX homepage) http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~cvenour/planets http://www.oslonett.no/home/janeik **** CHECK OUT THESE HELPFUL TEXT FILES HELD AT THE SITES: Infolist.doc, Vga-faq.zip, Vga-hint.zip, File-faq.zip **** UTILITIES: These sites also contain many extra utilities.
