ancient times 3/3 From: keith.langley@mdcs.com (Keith Langley) Date: Sun, 21 Apr 1996 00:00:00 +0000 The Pantheon One True Faith game #4 Aniforani calls it quits - Disgruntled over His inability to get other deities to pronounce His name correctly, Aniforani has abandoned the affairs of Erth. He has left a minor holy minion in charge of His worshippers. His parting statement was: "The accents are on the `i`s, damn it!" His stockpiles and holy sites have been cleared, and His heroes and priests moved to the nearest territory with His worshippers. His flocck are treated as agnostics, except that they add to the evil cosmic balance, and can be converted at double the normal rate by evil gods (meaning Vlad, as Vlad is the only active evil god remaining). Enabrin spreads deadly coins in British Isles - A fatal disease was traced to poisoned copper coins. Apparently several thousand coins were released im Meath, with a slow acting contact poison. As they circulated, they infected victims as far away as Shetland and Normandy. About 400 people died - 250 of Tinuviel's worshippers, 50 each of Vlad's, Aniforani's and agnostics. About ten military units were also killed. Only two heroes died; most heroes and priests don't handle snall change. Halthor takes Annaba - Even before news of Aniforani's departure, Halthor's army had marched to take advantage of His apparent lack of interest. A force from Tripoli marched into Annaba and captured it despite quite heavy losses from the defending catapult and priests. It is now certain that the god's departure has not reduced the power of His priests. Halthor defeated in massive Balkan struggle - Joss and Halthor both committed huge armies to a struggle for control of Plevven and Wallachia. Forces from Serbia, Transylvania and Sofia converged on the two provinces and a mighty battle ensued. Each side committed several priest-As and summoned units formed half of each army. Arrtillery on both sides was silenced, and the battle became a duel between Halthor's eastern human archers and horsebows, and Joss' gnome crossbows and wood elf archers. Joss' longer range and infantry wall tactics won the day, forcing Halthor's army to retreat. STANDINGS Although Vlad now has to carry the banner of Evil alone, He seems up to the challenge. His strong performance can be credited to staying out of war, and to effective preaching; He has gained eight provinces in three turns. Most of the other gods have been tied up in conflict; Halthor has scarcely grown at all, as the war effort has been consuming His resources. Oddly, Enabrin at peace has grown no faster than other powers at war; is He up to something?
