May 96 Galactic Inquirer From: dvistas@aol.com (D Vistas) Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 00:00:00 +0000 --------------- T H E G A L A C T I C I N Q U I R E R --------------- The Official Smuggler's Run News Service. Volume 4 May 96 ========================================================================== === INTERSTELLAR NEWS BRIEFS DATELINE 03 Sol: A new form of turn results will be tested this week for all email players in Smuggler's Run. Along with their normal text-based turn results, they will receive an HTML version to try out with their web browser. "More than likely, any smuggler who has email service also has access to the World Wide Web." said one of the scientists working on the project, who wished to remain anonymous. "This way, they can look at their turn results on their browser while online, and get a nice colorful page with graphics, instead of just text!" The HTML document will be sent along with the regular email turn, and there will be no extra charge for this new service. Please report any technical problems to dvistas@aol.com. DATELINE 11 Rasalhague: In a freak accident at the Stony Ravine Public Health Facility, a government run xenobiology laboratory, a new strain of antibiotics was mistakenly incubated at the incorrect temperature. The resulting biological "soup" multiplied so rapidly that the scientists and staff had to evacuate the laboratory for safety reasons. "Dere vas never any real danger, but dere vas too many of dem for uz to breaze! Zo we had to contain zem in a biocone until ze temperature could be normalized." said Dr. Hanzen Van Bouge, Terran Director of the lab. The excess medicinals will be available for sale on the open market by the first of May. DATELINE 15 Cor Caroli: After several successful months of the Pandemonium Circus radio sportscast on Network 99, the public's demand for portable subspace radios has finally had its toll on the electronic devices market on Macovia. Merchant's are desperately trying to import all the radios and entertainment electronics they can to keep up with demand. "Profit margin are going through roof!" said one Rhesian trader. Macovia, once the imperial prison planet, doesn't have the infrastructure currently in place to meet the sudden need for these luxury items, and many of its citizens are resorting to using low quality home made devices which often prove to be very dangerous. DATELINE 28 Aldebaran: A huge quake rocked the city of Heaven on Hrooma causing extensive damage to local city structures. Most of the destruction, however, was located in the mining district of Hard Ore Flats, where much if the unrefined ore for the planet's industries is mined. Most of the shafts and ore pockets have collapsed, leaving them inaccessible for the time being. Planetary officials have asked for the help of interstellar traders to help supplement the ore supplies until production can resume to normal levels. Q&A: "Why is it that although I have my fight set at 0, I am always eagerly getting into fights? Of the last 10 or so fights that have come my way, I've only seemed to slip away from one of them. Not that I really mind since I've been getting most of my VPs from those fights. It sure is a pain having to buy and use med kits or enter a hospital all the time." - SR-226. "It probably has a lot to do with the planets you are visiting, and perhaps the amount of money you have on you. Planets with high underworld levels also carry the danger of brigands and thieves waiting to pilfer you. And the more money you have, the bigger target you are. Try avoiding these lawless and hostile worlds, and if you happen to be transporting large sums of QPs, put some of them away in the imperial bank for a rainy day!" Q&A: "In my first week I used Bigelow's Guide three times, one of which was Dirdirdi, why didn't I receive the special order when I used this. Instead I got it by accident (at least I don't know how) three weeks later. - SR-262. You only get listings of Special Orders when you dock on a planet. Bigelow's Guide doesn't give this information otherwise. It seems to have something to do with a licensing agreement." ========================================================================== === THE STANDINGS LISTS The following traders have earned a place of exceptional honor and respect by succesfully competing as first-class smugglers.
