[PBEM News] Dark Day Phoenix: Supernatural RPG From: blackaeon@yahoo-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (blackaeon) Date: Tue, 22 May 2007 04:37:15 +0000 In the year 2004, the world is quickly headed for ruin. The government of the United States, and indeed, several across the world, has been taken over from an extra-dimensional threat- The Nightlords. Once powerful magicians from pre-Biblical times, these entities rule a shadowy dimension that borders the Earth realm, leading legions of black-armored Hounds and winged Hunters, the insectile Hollow Men and the shape-shifting Aeshmedai, and a host of other horrors against their rival Nightlords and the Earth itself. After three days of utter darkness on Earth, things seem to have finally gone back to normal. Or have they? During the upheval caused by what is now known as Dark Day, numerous reports of supernatural creatures and activities have been quashed by government agencies. The CIA, DEA, FBI and other agencies have been purged of most of their members, the remaining agents all merged into a single federal organization, the NSB (National Security Bureau). You are one of the few who has an inkling, if not a strong idea, that there's more going on in the world than you've been told. Perhaps you're a Nightspawn, a creature born of dark energies to combat the Nightlords and their minions. Your human form (or Facade) is stronger than that of most normal humans, but your true power lies in your Morphus, the mythic form you can shift into. Perhaps your Morphus is a pastiche of sewn-together body parts or stigmata-like wounds; that said, maybe it's got an angelic beauty to it. Regardless, all can determine on sight alone that there is nothing human about it. Or maybe you're a psychic or a magician, your studies of the mind and of magic having finally paid off in spades. The influx of magical energy that has come into the Earth dimension has transformed your arts from parlor tricks and religious rites to real, physical and mental effects. Or perhaps you're the bravest type of soul at all; a normal human, trying desperately to understand why your world is changing so rapidly, and to fight back against the horrors of the night. For anyone familiar with the Nightspawn/Nightbane setting from Palladium books, this will be a first level game. If you don't know the system or have never heard of it, that's fine: we can easily get you set up with a character, and most of the game has a free-form feel to it anyways. The site is still under construction, but most of the pertinent files should be up by 5/17 at the latest.
