Alternativley you could use:-

Send 100 D 2
Send 100 E 3
Load 100 COL
Send 100 B 2   <<--- i.e. use the optional number of ships to
                     achieve the break-off as above
Send 100 C

The general principle which I think is obscure in the rules
(judging by the number of time this question crops up <g> )
is:-

1.  Ship groups are homogenous i.e. identical in all respects
including tech levels, type of cargo and quantity of cargo
carried.

2.  Any order which changes part of group will make a new
group from the changed part.  The unchanged part retains its
old group number.

3.  New groups formed in this manner can be referenced by the
use of MAX up until the point where another order forms a new
group.
