Then why have there *never* been regular commercial ads on this group?
In fact, there is only 1 regular ad on comp.unix.solaris, and that one
doesn't make clear it's commercial even though it is. And advertising
groups such as comp.newprod will NOT take repeated ads. In fact, of
the dozens of comp groups I read, that solaris ad is the only repeated
ad I can think of.

No, I don't think so. There are big game companies which start dozens
of games per month, and then companies with open-ended games (they
only 'start' once) would feel left out. If rec.games.frp.announce will
take your ads that's their business. If you'd like to submit a PBM
List entry I'd be happy to mail you a description of the format.
