Running a PBeM without a turn schedule? From: mschmitz@direct.ca (Mike Schmitz) Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Hi all. I've been lurking for a while, and noticed that all the games I've seen mentioned tend to require only one or two turns per week. Have any of you ever tried running an open-ended game, where players may submit their actions as often as they wished? The game that I run functions this way: I post the situation, (sometimes very brief, others long), and the players get back to me as soon as possible. Usually they post once a day, sometimes twice, but they certainly skip days too sometimes. When combat starts, I give everyone 24 hours to reply; anyone who misses the deadline is 'surprised' and unable to participate in first round fighting. In a normal situation, I simply wait for all the players submissions to come in before I post the update (sometimes, if one player takes too long, I just go ahead anyway) I've been very pleased with the way this has gone, as our game accomplishes a lot, and I'm able to give the players the necessary info for them to make *informed* decisions. Also, individual players can do things (like, "I read the note i just found in my pocket") and get results without having to waste a whole week's turn doing it. Anyway, does anyone else out there work things this way? If so, I'd be interested to hear of any problems or suggestions you may have on this system, as our game has only been up for about 3 months now... later, Mike ________________________________________________________________ mschmitz@direct.ca "My daddy used to tell me, before he left >OR< this shitty world...
