Welcome aboard!
There are a lot of excellent resources on the internet.  You should try
and find the Mouth of Sauron ftp site because it has around 40 or 50
issues of an internet email style fanzine dedicated to nothing but
Middle Earth.  The 2950 specific stuff starts around #25 or #26.
Unfortunately, I don't have that info available.  Hopefully, someone
else will post it again. Also, there are some web pages that have
everyone's startup information.  You need this because there are more
experienced players that have this stuff memorized.  Its vital.

As to strategy, I can speak from experience: Build Emissaries early
(Turn 1-3) and use them to build camps.  Sell what you don't need to
build more camps.  Hopefully, you can build in hills/rough terrain (best
choices) and not mountains (too dragon heavy).  After that you can use
your emmisaries to increase the size of some of your camps to increase
your income.  You'll have to be careful because this can decrease the
production of your base products, although your cities will produce more
gold.  After that, crush your enemies with Heavy Infantry.  I'm not a
genius at this math stuff, but for the bucks (they are expensive), they
will do the most damage.  Above all (INMHO), talk to your fellow gamers
and work together.
