Quest Digest 27/6/96 From: ">>-Josh->" <J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk> Date: Thu, 27 Jun 1996 00:00:00 +0000 ___ _ / _ \ | | | |_| |UEST__| |IGEST \__ | / _ | | |_ | |_| | An e-mail discussion forum for the fantasy |_ / \___/ play by mail game; "Quest". Compiled by Josh Gallagher. J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk o This isn't one of those automatic list thingies, so could all articles be sent clearly marked with paragraphs initialled to me. o If you want off the list, just say! No hassle, no pressure. o All material here is the exclusive property of the author and may not be used elsewhere without their permission. ___ / _ \ Well, this is almost certainly the last Digest I will be | __/DITORIAL producing from Durham. :-( I leave uni tomorrow. But never \___| fear! It will continue and all mail should still be sent to this account until further notice. Thank you to those who've written in. I'm sure you all understand that it's going to be a quiet few months on the Digest front, until universities spring back into action again. Mean while keep telling me any bugs you know of in the game that might need fixing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Roy.Thomas@ubs.com Date: Fri, 21 Jun 96 15:38:03 +0100 > 1) Raise maximum cash a character can carry > 2) Fix the inconsistent way in which weapon skill is assigned to new > fighter recruits > 3) Bugs about many items in one location? RJT> How about increasing the amount of money you can store in a bank? (Currently 50K) If it costs 75K to equip a 15 Char group with +3 armour (5K each), this is reasonable. RJT> Then there is the problem where mages cannot recognise when spells are appropriate or not unlike priests (Destroy Undead when you are fighting gnolls is not appropriate, nor is Disintegrate against unarmoured opposition) I mean, you cannot be seriously telling me that priests are more intelligent that mages!!! > RO> This might sound stupid, especially in the light that I play Quest for > more than 6 years now, BUT...Somebody (DR ?) talked about fighter skill > 70+. How did you get that ? Only temporary by 301, or permanent by lots > (LOTS !) of potions ? What exactly is the border in order to get two/three > attacks per melee ? Even though my fighters have 50+ they only have two > attacks. RJT> Fighter skill also goes up through combat (about every 10 hits if your melee skill is 100%) RJT> I have some fighters of about 60SK 100% Melee who get 3 attacks per round. This however seems variable. Sometimes they only attack once. I'm not sure what the boundary is but I remember KJC saying something about only the Melee skill being taken into account for this, and not the SK. > JPG> As I said, not many, but it's quality not quantity, right? ;) > Until next time folks, happy Questing and for KJC players; my > sympathies are with you regarding the postal strike. RJT> There is always Fax / E-Mail. One day strikes don't really affect your returns. JPG> Good point. :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Mark Jones <mark@samlet.demon.co.uk> >As an attempt to get a bit more input going, I'd like >to try and compose a list of bugs/cheats in the game that could be >fixed. MJ> How about this one. I recently lost a priest (killed not misplaced) and decided to replace him with a mage. I managed to recruit a mage of 55 skill and attempted to expel my dead priest and recruit the mage in the same turn. Unfortunatly someone at kjc got my priests name wrong by assuming it was two words instead of one. After I pointed out this fault they corrected the mistake and my mage was recruited. After spending a couple of turns learning spells the mage suddenly lost his ability to cast any spells but was given a list of miracles to cast ( some of which were listed as only needing two components to complete) is this a case of trans(ma)gender ? JPG> I heard about this a long while ago, but was under the impression that character mixing had been solved... so, another addition to the list! > >RO> This might sound stupid, especially in the light that I play Quest for >more than 6 years now, BUT...Somebody (DR ?) talked about fighter skill 70+. >How did you get that ? Only temporary by 301, or permanent by lots (LOTS !) >of potions ? What exactly is the border in order to get two/three attacks >per melee ? Even though my fighters have 50+ they only have two attacks. MJ> I too have a more than keen interest in increasing my fighters skill on a permanent basis. To date the only way they manage to gain more skill is if they can find something to engage in several rounds of melee combat before it is killed (a list of suitable monsters to attack would be of help here). Our G.7 newsletter editor Chris recently produced stats which showed the fighters in the group to be at 100 skill. However I believe this to be through magic rather than other means and so it's no more than a temporary measure. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 21 Jun 1996 20:46:40 GMT From: Paul@smmad.demon.co.uk (Paul Damms) Regarding the Bugs/improvements. I would make the following comment. PD> I have just set up an HQ in game 16. Though things didn't go smoothly. Many of the alliance members made donations to my group which was to be head of the alliance. The first thing to go wrong was that I was not aware that the maximum a party could have in the bank was 50000 gold. The party had 18000 gold in the account. I tried to deposit 35000 into this account at the end of the turn. This would have given me 53000 which is over the magic 50000. The programming would not accept this so the 35000 remained on my party members. They were in due course robbed of 7411 gold. Why can't the prog be changed to take the bank account upto 50000 and leave the balance on the party members. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Explor555@aol.com Date: Sun, 23 Jun 1996 07:19:19 -0400 I think it would be a good idea to have a spell for when your PC get sucked into an Engulfing globe or a Black void. Which sucks them back in to the dimension again. This spell should be a spell for higher level mages and people sucked back should lose some of their stats. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 23 Jun 96 09:29:09 EDT From: Karl Wasley <101523.2365@CompuServe.COM> KW>I have recently seen a groups trun sheet with a number of attacks on another player group. During the first arrack the group was killed of but on subsiquent attacks up to 100 exp was gained per attack even though the group was dead. any suggestions?? KW>There has been a running conversation on mutiple steal order in my game 10. This came to pass after one group had robbed another group blind during a turn. With a running disccussion it came down the these points:- 1 If a thief is caught there should be 2 rounds of combat between the thief and the victim. When both groups realise what is up and join in an alignment check should be done to see weather a battle occurs. 2 There should be a K99 order which enhances you awarness but drops the amount of strength and magic poinst you regain over night. I wait for your suggestions Karl wasley Game 10 editor -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Okay, gotta rush, much to do!
